LoTR: Heroes of Middle Earth, by Electronic Arts is a brand-new turn-based strategic Role-Playing Game (SRPG) to be launched in the coming week. Featuring iconic characters such as Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee, the game is officially licensed by the LoTR Intellectual property. LoTR: Heroes of Middle Earth has been in a soft launch state for over 8 months now, with the game officially launching globally on 10th May, 2023. Players around the world are excited to team up with characters from the famed fantasy universe of Lord of the Rings! LoTR: Heroes of Middle Earth will be available to be downloaded and installed as a free-to-play game on both the Google Play Store and iOS App Store once it is launched globally.

In this tier list for LoTR: Heroes of Middle Earth, we will be providing an in-depth list of the different characters at different tiers, according to some reliable sources within the community such as content creators and official reddit/discord groups. As with any pre-released game, we advise players to take the rankings of characters in a speculative manner and not a definitive one. Many new changes are expected once the game has launched globally. Hence, we would recommend players to take inspiration from the tier list given below while forming their teams.

S Tier Characters

Let’s take a look at some of the characters in this tier:

BOLG

Bolg is a Shadow character that is classified as a Tank from the Orcs faction. His in-game description reads as follows – “Bolg is the undisputed, bloodthirsty leader of the Misty Mountain Orcs. He craves to expand his territory and seeks retribution for all past slights.” Bolg’s basic attack Frenzy is a single targeted damaging skill that deals 210% of his attack as damage to the enemy. Bolg’s 1st special attack Bonebreaker states the following – “Attack the target for 270% damage. Inflict Disable for 1 turn(s). While below 50% Health, inflict Heal Block for 2 turn(s).”

His 2nd special attack No Escape states the following – “Attack the target enemy for 330% damage. If Tordok is an ally, instead attack the target enemy 2 times for 190% damage per hit. Inflict Disrupted for 1 turn(s). While below 50% Health, instead inflict Disrupted for 2 turn(s).” Bolg’s 1st passive ability Legacy of Azog does as follow – “On Turn, if this character is above 50% Health, gain 2 stack(s) of Provoke, up to a max of 2 stack(s). If this character is below 50% Health, gain 1 stack(s) of Defensive, up to a max of 2 stack(s). While below 50% Health, gain +20% Damage.” Meanwhile, Bolg’s Leader skill states the following – “On Orc, Troll and Misty Mountain squad members Turn, 50% chance to gain Advantage for 1 turn(s). If that character is below 50% Health, chance is guaranteed. Orc, Troll and Misty Mountain squad members gain +15% Resistance.”

GHAZH IRONHIDE

Ghazh Ironhide is a Shadow character that is classified as a Tank from the Trolls faction. His in-game description reads as follows – “Molded for Sauron’s purposes, this Olog-hai knows only violence and war. Clad in iron and anger, this living weapon will devastate anyone in his way.” Ghazh Ironhide’s basic attack Spear Bash is a single targeted damaging skill that deals 210% of his attack as damage to the enemy. But if his current HP% is below 50%, this attack will deal 280% damage. Ghazh Ironhide’s 1st special attack Taste of Iron states the following – “Attack all enemies for 230% damage. Dispel 1 Boon(s) from each enemy.”

His 2nd special attack Rampage states the following – “Attack all enemies for 230% damage and an additional 20% damage for each Mordor ally below 100% health.” Ghazh Ironhide’s 1st passive ability A Giant’s Burden does as follow – “This character takes 20% less damage from enemies with Dagger or Staff weapons and takes 25% more damage from enemies with Two-handed Sword or Two-handed Heavy weapons. Gain +15% Max Health and +15% Damage but lose -10% Speed.” Meanwhile, Ghazh Ironhide’s assist ultimate ability Spear Bash states the following – “Attack the target for 178% damage. If this character is below 50% Health, instead deal 238% damage.”

GRUHUR THE BRUTE

Gruhur the Brute is a Shadow character that is classified as an Attacker from the Trolls faction. His in-game description reads as follows – “A denizen of the Misty Mountains, this Brute has speed that belies his size. His toxic blood is a harsh surprise for any who break through his rocklike hide.” Gruhur the Brute’s basic attack Brute Force is a single targeted damaging skill that deals 180% of his attack as damage to the enemy. This attack also has a 100% chance of removing 1 boon from the enemy. Gruhur the Brute’s 1st special attack Earthshaker states the following – “Attack all enemies for 200% damage and inflict Expose for 2 turn(s).”

His 2nd special attack Monstrous Roar states the following – “Grant Might for 1 turn(s) to all squad members. Inflict Daze for 1 turn(s) on all enemies.” Gruhur the Brute’s 1st passive ability A Giant’s Burden does as follow – “This character takes 20% less damage from enemies with Dagger or Staff weapons and takes 25% more damage from enemies with Two-handed Sword or Two-handed Heavy weapons. Gain +15% Max Health and +15% Damage but lose -10% Speed.” Meanwhile, Gruhur the Brute’s assist ultimate ability Brute Force states the following – “Attack the target for 187% damage. This ability can be dodged or can be blundered.”

HALBARAD

Halbarad is a Light character that is classified as a Tank from the Humans faction. His in-game description reads as follows – “As one of the Northern Dúnedain, Halbarad is fiercely loyal to Aragorn. He wields his giant axe in service of the Rangers and for the good of Middle-earth.” Halbarad’s basic attack Crushing Blow is a single targeted damaging skill that deals 160% of his attack as damage to the enemy. This attack also has a 100% chance of inflicting Weak-minded for 2 turns to the enemy. Halbarad’s 1st special attack Rugged Medicine states the following – “Gain 2 stack(s) of Defensive. Heal all squad members for 1500 Health + 9% of this character’s Max Health.”

His 2nd special attack Northern Storm states the following – “Attack the target enemy for 260% damage. Gain Taunt for 1 turn(s) and Deadly for 2 turn(s). If Mírie is an ally, grant Deadly to ally Mírie for 2 turn(s) and instead attack the enemy 2 times for 175% damage per hit. On Crit, grant Deadly for 2 turn(s) to all Ranger squad members.” Halbarad’s 1st passive ability Tall Tower does as follow – “Ranger squad members gain +7% Max Health. When a Ranger ally gains Stealth, grant Eagle Eye to that ally and Heal self for 4% of this character’s Max Health.” Meanwhile, Halbarad’s Leader ability states the following – “Ranger squad members gain +15% Focus. When a Ranger squad member receives Eagle Eye, grant Advantage for 1 turn(s) and grant 10% Turn Meter to that squad member.”

EOTHAIN

Eothain is a Light character that is classified as a Tank from the Human faction. His in-game description reads as follows – “Éothain is a loyal member of Éomer’s personal guard. He is the first to charge into battle, and the sight of his bravery spurs his allies to great deeds.” Eothain’s basic attack Spear of Rohan is a single targeted damaging skill that deals 170% of his attack as damage to the enemy. This attack also has a 100% chance of inflicting Expose for 2 turns on the enemy. Eothain’s 1st special attack Sentinel’s Stance states the following – “Gain 4 stacks of Provoke and grant 20% Turn Meter to all squad members.”

His 2nd special attack Show of Strength states the following – “Attack all enemies for 230% damage and grant 1 stack(s) of Counterattack to all squad members.” Eothain’s 1st passive ability Unknown does as follow – “When an Isengard squad member inflicts a Bane, heal all squad members for a % of their Max Health.” Meanwhile, Eothain’s assist ultimate ability Spear of Rohan states the following – “Attack the target for 144% damage and inflict Expose for 2 turn(s).”

A Tier Characters

Let’s take a look at some of the characters in this tier:

LADY EOWYN

Lady Eowyn is a Light character that is classified as a Support from the Human faction. Her in-game description reads as follows – “A bold and valiant Shieldmaiden of Rohan, Éowyn is a highly-trained defensive fighter who supports and protects her allies in battle.” Lady Eowyn’s basic attack Defensive Blow is a single targeted damaging skill that deals 180% of her attack as damage to the enemy. This attack also has a 100% chance of granting herself 1 stack of Defensive. Lady Eowyn’s 1st special attack Valiant Protector states the following – “Grant Might for 1 turn(s) to all squad members. Call the ally with the highest Damage to assist.”

Her 2nd special attack Break the Cage states the following – “Cleanse 2 Bane(s) from self and 1 Bane(s) from all allies. Attack the target enemy for 210% damage and 10% additional damage per Bane cleansed. Inflict Disable for 1 turn(s) on the target enemy.” Lady Eowyn’s 1st passive ability Shieldmaiden of Rohan does as follow – “On Turn, gain 1 stack(s) of Counterattack. Max stack(s) amount is 3. Deal +20% bonus damage during Counterattack. When an ally is inflicted with a Bane, gain +2.5% Turn Meter. If that ally is from Rohan, instead gain +5% Turn Meter.” Meanwhile, Lady Eowyn’s Leader Skill Steward of Edoras states the following – “Rohan squad members gain +45% Crit Chance during assists and counterattacks.”

SHAGRAT

Shagrat is a Shadow character that is classified as an Attacker from the Orcs faction. His in-game description reads as follows – “Shagrat is the brutal Captain of the Cirith Ungol garrison. He will execute anyone who disrupts the Dark Lord’s plans–enemy spies and worthless allies alike.” Shagrat’s basic attack Filthy Blade is a single targeted damaging skill that deals 170% of his attack as damage to the enemy. This attack also has a 100% chance of inflicting 1 stack of Bleed for 2 turns on the enemy. Shagrat’s 1st special attack Final Order states the following – “Attack the target enemy for 280% damage and grant Might to all squad members for 1 turn(s). If Shagrat has Merciless, sacrifice the ally with the lowest health and attack for 600% damage instead.”

His 2nd special attack Splash of Green states the following – “Attack the target enemy for 200% damage and inflict 1 stack(s) of Poison for 2 turn(s). If Grimlurz is in the party, this attack will instead hit all enemies for 200% and inflict 1 stack(s) of Poison for 2 turn(s) on all targets. Targets already affected by Bleed, Burning or Poison will receive an additional stack of Poison for 2 turn(s).” Shagrat’s 1st passive ability Orc of the Eye does as follow – “Gain +20% Damage and +15% Crit Chance. If an ally is at 10% health or less, Shagrat gains Merciless.” Meanwhile, Shagrat’s Leader Skill Let the Lads Play states the following – “Squad members gain 4% Turn Meter per Bane when hitting an enemy with a Bane, up to 16% additional Turn Meter for Mordor allies and 8% for other allies.”

STRIDER

Strider is a Light character that is classified as an Attacker from the Human faction. His in-game description reads as follows – “The mysterious Chieftain of the Dúnedain and leader of the Rangers of the North, Strider is a well-rounded attacker who excels at fighting Orcs and protecting his allies.” Strider’s basic attack Push Through is a single targeted damaging skill that deals 190% of his attack as damage to the enemy. If the enemy has a Bane, then this attack deals 260% of his Attack as damage instead. Strider’s 1st special attack Burn the Shadows states the following – “Attack the target enemy 3 times for 110% damage per hit. If they are a Nazgûl target, instead deal 130% damage. Inflict Burning for 2 turn(s).”

His 2nd special attack Heroic Charge states the following – “Attack all enemies for 200% damage. This attack has +20% Crit Chance.” Strider’s 1st passive ability Greatest Huntsman does as follow – “Gain +15% Crit Chance. Gain 15% Armor and an additional 5% Armor for each ally with Stealth.” Meanwhile, Strider’s Leader Skill There is Still Hope states the following – “Whenever Strider Crits, grant Stealth for 1 turn(s) to the most wounded Hobbit ally that doesn’t already have Stealth. Road to Rivendell squad members gain +15% Damage and +10% Armor.”

UGLUK

Ugluk is a Shadow character that is classified as a Tank from the Orcs faction. His in-game description reads as follows – “Captain of the Uruk-hai and servant of the White Hand, Uglúk commands the forces of Isengard with vicious threats and brutal steel. All will bow to Saruman.” Ugluk’s basic attack Brutal Thrust is a single targeted damaging skill that deals 200% of his attack as damage to the enemy. This attack also has a 100% chance of providing Ugluk with 2 stacks of Provoke. Ugluk’s 1st special attack Onslaught states the following – “Attack the target enemy for 250% damage and inflict Blind for 1 turn(s).”

His 2nd special attack Dirty Work states the following – “Attack the target enemy 2 times for 170% damage per hit and inflict Disable for 1 turn(s). Gain 1 stack(s) of Defensive. If Mauhúr is an ally, instead deal 210% damage per hit and also grant 1 stack(s) of Defensive to Mauhúr.” Ugluk’s 1st passive ability Rough Medicine does as follow – “Gain +25% Block Chance. On Block, inflict Weak-Minded for 2 turn(s) on the attacking enemy.” Meanwhile, Ugluk’s Leader Skill I Am Ugluk states the following – “When an Isengard squad member inflicts a Bane, heal all squad members for 2.5% of their Max Health. Isengard squad members gain +10% Focus and +10% Max Health.”

B Tier Characters

AZHAK

Azhak is a Shadow character that is classified as an Attacker from the Orcs faction. His in-game description reads as follows – “Azhak wields an enormous morningstar with brutal efficacy, bashing his way through enemies and reveling in their agony.” Azhak’s basic attack Maiming Blow is a single targeted damaging skill that deals 180% of his attack as damage to the enemy. This attack also has a 100% chance of inflicting Expose for 2 turns on the enemy. Azhak’s 1st special attack Bleed Dry states the following – “Attack the target enemy for 300% damage and inflict 2 stack(s) of Bleed for 2 turn(s).”

His 2nd special attack Cull the Weak states the following – “Attack the most wounded enemy for 420% damage. This ignores Taunt. On kill, grant Might for 1 turn(s) to self and Mauhúr.” Azhak’s 1st passive ability Bred for War does as follow – “Deal +40% bonus damage against enemies with Bleed. On enemy death, gain 1 Stamina for a random ability.” Meanwhile, Azhak’s assist ultimate ability Maiming Blow states the following – “Attack the target enemy for 144% damage and inflict Expose for 2 turn(s).”

DUNHAR

Dunhar is a Shadow character that is classified as a Healer from the Orcs faction. His in-game description reads as follows – “Cruel Dûnhar employs potent grogs and crude treatments to keep the Uruk-hai in fighting condition and cripple their foes.” Dunhar’s basic attack Bloodletting is a single targeted damaging skill that deals 170% of his attack as damage to the enemy. This attack also has a 100% chance of inflicting 1 stack of Bleed for 3 turns on the enemy. Dunhar’s 1st special attack Brutal Gash states the following – “Attack the target enemy for 280% damage and inflict Heal Block for 2 turn(s).”

His 2nd special attack Cruel Medicine states the following – “Heal the most wounded squad member for 1200 Health and 18% of this character’s Max Health. Inflict Weaken for 1 turn(s) on 2 random enemies.” Dunhar’s 1st passive ability Burning Draught does as follow – “On turn, grant 1 stack(s) of Defensive to the most wounded squad member. Gain +15% Max Health and +10% Focus.” Meanwhile, Dunhar’s assist ultimate ability Bloodletting states the following – “Attack the target enemy for 144% damage and inflict 1 stack(s) of Bleed for 2 turn(s).”

EOMER

Eomer is a Light character that is classified as an Attacker from the Human faction. His in-game description reads as follows – “Third Marshal of Rohan and adopted son of King Théoden, Éomer fights for Rohan’s people. A gifted horseman and warrior, he is a general among generals.” Eomer’s basic attack Sword of Rohan is a single targeted damaging skill that deals 190% of his attack as damage to the enemy. This attack also increases his own turn meter by 15%. Eomer’s 1st special attack Marshal’s Command states the following – “Summon a Rohan Attacker. Attack the target enemy for 170% damage and call a Rohan ally to assist.”

His 2nd special attack Courageous Charge states the following – “Cleanse 1 Bane(s) from self and Éothain. Attack the target enemy 3 times for 110% damage per hit. If Éothain is an ally, this attack deals 130% damage per hit instead.” Eomer’s 1st passive ability Brotherly Devotion does as follow – “On Turn, Heal self and ally Éowyn for 6% of this character’s Max Health and gain 1 stack(s) of Assistance, up to a max of 2 stack(s).” Meanwhile, Eomer’s assist ultimate ability Sword of Rohan states the following – “Attack the target for 140% damage. If the target is from Dunland or Isengard deal an additional 50% damage. Gain +15% Turn Meter.”
