Tier 1: Top Contenders
Pikachu EX: Pikachu EX is back on top of the meta, taking turns with Mewtwo EX. The mainstays of the deck are Pikachu EX and Zapdos EX but can be easily adapted into versions with Pinkcin, Blitzle Zebstrika, Raichu, and other variations to suit any given strategy.
Mewtwo EX: The Mewtwo EX still is a powerhouse, though it’s now with more typical builds featuring two Mewtwo EX cards and support like Ralts and Gardevoir for consistent damage output. The deck takes full advantage of strong psychic attacks and excellent synergy between the cards.
Charizard EX: Charizard EX, often accompanying Arcanine EX, propels off with fast energy setup from Moltres EX in order to deliver brute strength attacks. In this structure, Charizard’s high damage potential balances well with Arcanine’s faster, more energy-efficient attacks.
Tier 2: Solid Choices
Starmie EX: Starmie EX is unique in this tier, having a strong water-type synergy and being able to hit both active and bench Pokémon with Articuno EX and Greninja, making it a powerful pick for tournaments.
Tier 3: Niche Performers
Articuno EX: Articuno EX, when paired with Greninja, shines at hitting bench Pokémon and adds an extra layer of strategy in spreading damage across the opponent’s Pokémon.
Wigglytuff EX: Wigglytuff EX has gained in popularity, particularly with the new promo Jigglypuff. This deck relies on sleep and poison effects of Wigglytuff EX and support Pokémon like Wheezing and Arbok to manage and inconvenience opponents.
Tier 4: Emerging Options
Koga: The Koga deck focuses on poisoning and catching opponents’ Pokémon with Arbok and Wheezing, which would make them difficult to handle both the active and benched Pokémon.
Machamp EX: Machamp EX is a no-nonsense kind of attack that relies on the damage output increase as it evolves from Machop to Machoke to Machamp EX, leveraging physical power.
Exeggutor EX: Exeggutor EX is versatile and can fit into almost any strategy given its low energy cost for attacks. It works well both as a single attacker and as a combination with other Pokémon such as Wigglytuff EX.
As we conclude this Pokémon TCG meta analysis for December, it is quite evident that the players have a wide range of decks to play from, each having different strengths and strategies.
