The Ragnarok Online franchise is taking a dip into a brand new genre with Ragnarok Arena – Monster SRPG, this time shirking its open-world MMORPG style in lieu of pursuing a more strategy-based gameplay. As such, this new game is more of a strategy gacha RPG where players can recruit and train a few different characters, as well as obtain a wide variety of iconic monsters from the Ragnarok Online universe. The idea here is to create powerful teams with balanced compositions that can engage and defeat any enemy that stands in their path.

While summoning and unlocking the best units in the game is mostly a matter of luck, as you’ll be relying on the gacha system, you will also be able to obtain a few novice characters as you progress through the story. These characters are fully customizable and can transition into a variety of classes, each with different sets of skills and abilities, which in turn makes them suited for several different roles and positions within a group.

Those of you who are familiar with the Ragnarok Online franchise will definitely recognize these starter jobs, as they’re taken directly from the popular MMORPG. However, if you’re new and don’t know which one to choose, then this article is for you. In this Ragnarok Arena – Monster SRPG class guide, you’ll find an overview of all the classes in this strategy RPG, as well as our personal opinions about each of them, which will hopefully help you choose the one that will give you the best start.

Swordsman

Swordsman is the job the players take up whenever they want to transition into a strength-based melee DPS or a tank, and Ragnarok Arena is no exception. This job features some of the highest HP and DEF stats, along with the highest ATK stat, making him into a brawny melee fighter.

As far as their skill set goes, the Swordsman has a powerful dragon breath attack that deals strong AoE damage and applies a DoT to the targets. They also have a passive buff that deals extra damage every five basic attacks and applies a 10% ATK boost. Moreover, the job is quite tanky thanks to another passive, which has a 12% chance when receiving damage to restore 6% of the character’s max HP over 4 seconds.

This is the ideal job for whenever you need a strong fighter for the frontlines.

Mage

The Mage is a specialist at dealing strong unblockable damage and targeting high value targets. This class has two passive skills that have a chance of activating on every basic attack, which deal additional damage to the enemy. The Mage is all about dealing burst damage whenever his skills activate. And since the chances are quite high on every basic attack, this job is a great alternative for a DPS role.

The Mage has the potential to be one of the strongest DPS jobs, though his dependence on RNG makes him a bit unreliable.

Acolyte

A strong support class, which has the ability to heal and buff his allies, not only keeping their HP topped up, but also bestowing them with effects like increased attack speed, defense, and critical rate. They can also deal some damage to the enemy with one of their skills, while also decreasing their attack speed and movement speed for a few seconds.

Overall, this is the best support class in the game, and it’s worth having if you need a dedicated healer—the buffs and debuffs are just the cherry on top.

Merchant

An interesting class that’s a mix between DPS and support, not only being able to deal high single-target and AoE damage, but also aiding their allies by granting them a powerful 25% ATK buff for 8 seconds at the beginning of the fight. They can also help the group by keeping the enemies locked under stun effects, preventing them from taking action. Overall, the Merchant is a great choice for a more offense-oriented support class.

Thief

Specialists at dealing tons of damage, especially to the enemies in the back row, which makes them ideal for targeting high-value targets such as healers that can make it more difficult to take down the enemy, or casters who can deal tons of damage from behind the relative safety of their tanks. However, the Thief class is also quite agile and can even go toe-to-toe with the strongest foes thanks to their innate ability to dodge and become invulnerable to attacks every 10 seconds, while also applying a Dark Shadow effects to his targets, greatly limiting their combat abilities for a duration.

Contrary to what you’d see in most games, the Thief is actually the tankiest class in the game, featuring the highest HP and DEF stats, which are even higher than the Swordsman’s. Nevertheless, his kit is definitely designed to attack high-value targets in the back rows—the extra defense just makes them extra difficult to take down.

Archer

One of the strongest classes in the game in terms of raw damage output. The Archer stays at a distance and pelts enemies with powerful arrows. His abilities can target both single enemies as well as multiple enemies in an area. These abilities are quite powerful and will whittle down even the strongest enemies after some time. This fact is further enhanced by the class’ Improved Concentration skill, which applies a 15% buff crit rate buff to the Archer whenever there aren’t any enemies in range, further increasing his damage output when he starts attacking once again.

Overall, there’s a good balance of classes available in Ragnarok Arena. And while you’re limited to only one of these custom characters at first, you’ll eventually unlock more customizable characters as you progress through the story missions.
