Understand the Combat Mechanics of Top Squads: Battle Arena
Top Squads: Battle Arena is an Idle RPG that features thematic turn-based battles that are highly automated. It can be called a casual player’s retreat as you do not need to manually intervene during battles. Players can auto through the different quest stages and win as long as their heroes are synergized and powerful enough to beat the enemies. To compare power levels, the game employs a CP (Combat Power) system wherein your team and heroes are assigned a cumulative number that determines their overall strength. If your team’s CP is higher than that of enemies, you are most likely going to win.
The combat is fully automated, as expected from an Idle game. Players will have little to no control over their characters once they are deployed and the battle has started. The combat mechanics are quite simple and straightforward. Players can deploy up to 5 heroes at a time. Heroes come in different rarities and factions which we will discuss in a separate section. Both allied heroes and enemies will have 2 separate bars – a green-colored HP bar and a yellow colored energy bar. Your heroes gain energy whenever they kill enemies, deal damage, or take damage. Upon reaching the max capacity, they will be eligible to release their ultimate abilities.
You can choose to automatically cast the character’s ultimate abilities or manually trigger them. Further, there are some amazing QOL (Quality-of-Life) features such as 3X battle speed and auto-questing to aid new players. During battles, your formations also play a key role in deciding which enemies your heroes will target. Hence, it’s advised to put damage dealers in the backline, and the tanky defender units in the frontline.
Faction Counter
The game further strategizes and complicates its depth by adding Faction counters. Each hero in the game is assigned a faction, and accordingly they react to enemy heroes. There are 6 distinct factions in the game:
- Asterion – A civilization built among satellites.
- Sylvanvera – An ancient tribe deep in the mountains and forests, but with powerful technology.
- Tethyshaven – A free city with advanced cyborg biotechnology.
- Heliodune – An industrial city-state in the depths of the desolate great desert.
- Judicator – Imperial Federation’s elite legion, the empire blade’s maintaining order.
- Exiler – The trump card of the Resistance Army, squads of superpowered mutants.
They react to each other in the following manner:
- Asterion is stronger against Sylvanvera but weaker against Heliodune.
- Sylvanvera is stronger against Tethyshaven but weaker against Asterion.
- Tethyshaven is stronger against Heliodune but weaker against Sylvanvera.
- Heliodune is stronger against Asterion but weaker against Tethyshaven.
- Judicator and Exiler are both stronger and weaker against each other, but neutral against the rest of the factions.
The factions at an advantage deal 25% more damage to the corresponding faction, making them an integral part of combat mastery.
Faction Boosts
Heroes are divided into separate rarities and factions. Depending on the number of heroes you have deployed from the same faction, you can unlock several in-battle boosts for them. If you have 3 heroes from the same faction in your formation, their attack will increase by 10%. Similarly, if you have 4 heroes from the same faction, their attack and defense increase by 15%. Interestingly, heroes from the Judicator faction are regarded as heroes from any faction when considering faction bonuses.
Alternatively, heroes from the Exiled faction are regarded as faction-less, and they are given raw base enhancements depending on how many of them are present in your formation:
- 1 hero from Exiled faction – Block rate + 10%
- 2 heroes from Exiled faction – Crit rate + 10%
- 3 heroes from Exiled faction – Initial energy + 4000
- 4 heroes from Exiled faction – Damage reduction + 10%
- 5 heroes from Exiled faction – Damage bonus + 10%
Heroes
Top Squads: Battle Arena is a gacha game at it’s core, with multiple distinct heroes available to be recruited. Known as “Linkers” in the official in-game terminology, these heroes come in different rarities and factions. The lowest rarity is B tier, while the highest rarity is S tier. If you are confused which heroes are the strongest, we would recommend checking out a detailed tier list for in-depth information. Heroes are given different base stats such as Attack, HP, and Defense, according to which they act in battles.
Further, all heroes are also given active and passive abilities that they can use in combat situations. Players can also increase the base stats of heroes by leveling them, enhancing their skills, and equipping them with strong gear sets.
Recruit System
Players can summon B-S rarities of Linkers via the innate gacha system known as “Recruit” in the official in-game terminology. This system unlocks when you clear stage 1-12 of the main story exploration. Players can see through the different summoning banners, some of which are permanent and others are available for a limited period of time. You can use the accumulated Link Certificates or Diamonds to summon these banners. A single summon costs 300 diamonds while a 10-pull costs 2700 diamonds.
The rates of summoning the different rarities of Linkers are as follows:
- B rank hero – 50% chance to be summoned
- A rank hero – 45% chance to be summoned
- S rank hero – 5% chance to be summoned
Playing Top Squads: Battle Arena on a bigger screen of your PC or Laptop with BlueStacks without worrying about battery drainage is highly recommended.
