Based on the popular IP of Tower of God manhwa/novella/anime series, the series has seen a surge of popularity, being viewed and watched over 6 billion times worldwide. Tower of God: The Great Journey is going to be the first original game based on the webtoon turned anime IP of Tower of God. Players can expect tons of action and story similar to the original Tower of God. As mentioned by the developers, there is going to slim to none changes in the storyline and new players coming to the game will be able to view and play out the story mode completely spoiler-free. Naturally, this narrative will change as the game is further developed and introduces new characters. The Korean version has already introduced over 20 different characters since it’s launch in mid-2022. Hence, the global players will have enough time to do their due diligence while playing. Sadly, no other comments could be seen by the developers regarding the pace of the global version compared to the Korean version. In this article, we will be providing some of our personally observed tips and tricks while playing the global version of Tower of God: The Great Journey. As the core concept of the game is to grind daily being an Idle RPG, players might find it confusing as to why they cannot progress fast. Well, it’s due to the nature of the beast along with some misunderstandings that a new player might have when first playing Tower of God: The Great Journey. It’s not a sprint race but a marathon where you can get stronger daily by completing certain missions and acquiring more resources. However, we do have some helpful tips that can ease the process a little bit and allow you to get some extra resources in a shorter period of time. Tip #1. Focusing on the Main Story

The main story of Tower of God: The Great Journey is not just a story but it’s actual the entire essence of progression in the game. Players are required to clear the Story mode in order to gain player experience that helps them level up their account and unlock new content in the game. At the beginning, you will see a lot of locked content that say you need a specific level to unlock them. Currently, only defeating bosses in the Rice Pot and clearing Story mode chapters are the only ways of getting player experience for your account. Many of the core systems of the game are locked behind levels. For example, players cannot challenge the Tower of Trial if they are not Level 15. They cannot challenge the Administrator’s Trial if they are not Level 17. Players cannot participate in the Ranker Wars and earn themselves some juicy extra Diamonds if they are not Level 20. Hence, we can see that levelling up is the core progression aspect in Tower of God: The Great Journey.

Secondly, the sheer amount of resources thrown at your for the first time you will clear any of the stages in the Story mode are going to be far greater than the resources you will be earning while AFK from the Rice Training Pot. One of the most abundant resources that you will get will be Gear upgrading materials that will help you level up your gear to increase the power level of your heroes as well as provide them with additional stats. Apart from Gold and Tower Summon Tickets occasionally, players will also be guaranteed to get Diamonds upon clearing a certain chapter. The Story mode is quite easy to complete as the entire combat system is in auto mode and players just need to click on the hero ability icons to launch their abilities. Some events and beginner missions will also be available to guide you on your way to becoming stronger. These missions also require you to clear the main story mode to unlock content and participate in the content. Make sure to complete the beginner missions for some juicy premium currencies.

Tip #2. Re-Rolling to Start Efficiently

Tower of God: The Great Journey is a gacha game that takes into account summoning and collecting different types of heroes. Each hero in the game pertains to the Tower of God IP and has their own unique active and passive abilities. Heroes come in different rarities – Rare, Epic, and Legendary. You might have seen by now if you have completed the tutorial of the game that the higher the rarity of the hero, the more powerful it usually is. Re-rolling is the process through which players can guarantee them a good start by essentially restarting the game after completing the tutorial multiple times. Players can unlock the Summoning system once the tutorial if finished and then use their Pre-Registration rewards (claimable from Mail) on the Summoning banners to try their luck in obtaining a Legendary grade hero.

The chances of obtaining your desired hero are quite slim to none as the base rates for summoning a legendary hero itself is quite low:

• Legend Rarity weapon and character – 1% total (0.8% for character + 0.2% for weapon)
• Heroic Rarity weapon and character – 5% total (3% for character + 2% for weapon)
• Rare Rarity weapon – 20% chance of being obtained
• Advanced Rarity weapon – 74% chance of being obtained

With such a slim chance of getting a legendary character, it’s quite tough and exhausting to re-roll in Tower of God: The Great Journey. A typical re-roll should take you anywhere between 5-10 minutes of playtime.

Tip #3. Ignition Weapon and Gear Upgrading

You might be hearing these 2 words a lot in different social media outlets of the game or in community forums – Ignition Weapon and Gear. These 2 systems are essentially the only 2 main aspects of powering up your heroes that you need to be aware of. Players need to understand that each hero in Tower of God: The Great Journey has their own specific special equipment that can only be equipped to them called as “Ignition Weapon”. This Ignition Weapon can apply additional boosted effects on their skills as well as provide additional stats to the character. Regular Gear on the other hand only provides extra stats to the heroes that they are equipped onto. All heroes in the game can be equipped with gear, regardless of their base rarity or level. Ignition Weapons on the other hand can be exclusive to heroes but also common one’s that can be equipped to any hero. Exclusive Ignition Weapons are some of the rarest weapons and are quite tough to obtain.

Just like you would upgrade your heroes, you need to upgrade your gear to see improvement in power. Gears are additional stats on top of the base stats provided to your heroes. It’s highly recommended that players make sure to correctly match the right gear to the right type of heroes to get the maximum value from the bonus stats. For example, always make sure to equip gear that gives Attack%, Critical Hit Damage%, and Critical Hit Rate% on DPS type heroes. Providing them tanky stats won’t help them since they are meant to deal damage to enemies.

Tip #4. Tower of Trials are your Best Friend

Tower of Trials are going to be the main form of PvE content in the game that challenges the player’s ability to create different teams and challenge monsters. In the Tower of Trials, players can climb to new floors every single day until they are out Tower of Trials Keys. These keys recharge over a period of time at the rate of 1 Key per 72 hours. Other ways to obtain Tower of Trials Keys is through events, beginner missions, daily missions, and more. Players will be rewarded with juicy rewards at the end of each floor in Tower of Trials. If they are feeling stuck in some floor or unable to beat the next floor, players can also choose to repeat any floor for some rewards and to exhaust their keys.

Tip #5. Using Skills at the Right Time

Although Tower of God: The Great Journey is an Idle game, there is still some strategy involved to win effectively in fights. The game is notorious for not letting you control your heroes in the way you want to. However, the game does a good job in giving you control over the usage of their ultimate abilities that can be seen at the right-hand side of the battlefield. Players can use these abilities at the press of a button.

Many types of content such as the Ranker War in Tower of God: The Great Journey will demand a correct skill usage time in order to win the battles effectively. This is simply due to the nature of the beast where the AI (Artificial Intelligence) is programmed to use the skills as soon as they are available, regardless of looking at the actual situation on the battlefield. Hence, a healer might use their healing ultimate skill when the HP of all your allies are full at the start of a battle. When in reality, if you were controlling manually, you would rather want to use the Healing skill when your heroes were significantly lower in HP after taking hits from enemies. Such basic concepts will help you progress more efficiently when you might be falling in the same battles in Auto Mode.
