Choosing a Civilization

For those unaware of how Age of Empires games usually work, the first step in the process is to choose a civilization. At the time of writing, there exists 4 distinct civilizations:

• Chinese – Chinese architecture is distinguished by its dougong brackets and eaves. While regional styles vary, their spatial layouts, structural designs, decorative arts, and other aspects share a common foundation in underlying concepts and ideologies. 
• French – French architecture evolved from its Roman roots, incorporating elements of Gothic, Renaissance, and palace culture. This fusion created a distinctive aesthetic that significantly impacted subsequent generations.
• Byzantine – Byzantine architecture melds the distinctive culture of Mesopotamia with ancient Roman architectural foundations. This style harmoniously blends Eastern and Western influences, with the iconic rounded dome roof as its most prominent feature.
• Romans – Roman architects drew inspiration from ancient Greek styles. Their designs often feature symmetrical plane structures, robust walls, arches, domed roofs, pillars, and imposing towers. This results in a commanding and dignified aesthetic.

Keep in mind, once a civilization is chosen, you will not be able to change it. Each civilization brings a ton of buffs for different aspects of the game. Check them out:

Undertaking Quests 

In the early stages of the game, working on quests is critical for progress. According to many veterans of the game, completing missions and challenges in Age of Empires Mobile is more than just earning resources and gold. It’s also similar to having a handbook that helps you understand the game better. These missions guide you through various aspects of the game, making it easier to figure things out.

Players can get a ton of resources by completing these simple quests, getting not only progression for their account but also learning a lot about the core game mechanics. Majority of these quests are simple to complete and require you to upgrade buildings, farm resources, and expand your territory. Ensure to judiciously use the resources obtained from the quests as they are a 1-time reward that does not repeat. 

Heroes

Age of Empires Mobile features a variety of heroes that players can summon and use for their mighty battles in the race to expand the kingdom. The game employs a handy gacha system that allows players to get shards for heroes, complete heroes, and items. Heroes, much like in other gacha games, come in different rarities and roles. The core roles are – Marshall, Warrior, and Tactician. Combining different heroes of multiple roles is required to take a balanced approach towards team-building. Not only it spreads your heroes evenly but also allows you to tackle tricky situations effectively. 

Heroes’ unit capacity rises as they level up, and talents become available at level 20, allowing strategic options for enhancing their skills. Experimenting with skills is essential, with the ability to reset for 100 Empire coins. Heroes have access to four talents: Commander, Signature, and two customized skills, each of which are critical for battle success. 

Building and Construction

One of the best ways to progress efficiently in Age of Empires Mobile is to constantly construct and upgrade your core buildings. Doing so requires builders. As a free-to-play player, you will have access to 2 builders. Simply go over to the hammer looking menu and start constructing important buildings such as Houses, Town Center, Mills, Lumber Camps, University, Hospital, and much more. 

Upgrading these structures is critical for gaining additional benefits such as increased troop capacity, improved resource output, and strengthened defenses. For example, strengthening the Barracks improves soldier training pace while simultaneously increasing the number of units produced.

Exploring technological developments at the university has also been beneficial, delivering large attribute bonuses to strengthen my empire. By wisely maintaining and upgrading your structures, you may set the groundwork for your empire’s expansion.
