Heroes are one of the most important parts of your progression in Avatar: Realms Collide. Whether you’re fighting enemies or collecting resources, your hero lineup determines your strength, efficiency, and how far you can go in both PvE and PvP content. Each hero brings something unique to the table, with skills and passives that scale as you upgrade them.

This guide is here to help you get started with the hero system in this strategy game. We’ll walk through how to recruit new heroes, how to get the scrolls you’ll need, what kind of skills heroes have, and how to use them wisely. If you’re looking to make the most of your benders, this is where to start.

How to Recruit Heroes

All hero recruitment in Avatar: Realms Collide happens at the Altar of Heroes. This building works similarly to summoning systems in other games—you use specific scrolls to perform draws, which can result in items, hero shards, or sometimes full heroes.

There are two types of scrolls:

  • Silver Scrolls: These are more common and used for basic summons. You’ll mainly get resource packs, speedups, experience books, and spirit shards for Rare and Epic heroes. There’s a small chance to pull a full Rare hero, but don’t count on it.
  • Golden Scrolls: These offer better odds and rewards. They give access to shards and heroes of Epic and Legendary rarities, along with high-value items. Still, full heroes are rare drops even here.

If you’re aiming for top-tier heroes, Golden Scrolls are your best bet. But collecting shards over time is usually the most reliable path.

Where to Get Summoning Scrolls and Shards

You’ll get Silver and Golden Scrolls from several sources just by playing regularly. Completing daily quests, participating in events, clearing stages, and collecting login rewards all add up over time. Using redeem codes is also a great way of scoring resources, as long as the codes are valid.

Another key source of hero shards is the Scout House, where you can dispatch troops to investigate spots on the world map. These small missions can reward you with shards, speedups, and other useful loot. Hero shards are used both to unlock and upgrade heroes, so they’re always worth collecting, even if you already own the hero.

Additionally, completing chapter tasks, opening special chests, or taking part in time-limited events can also earn you scrolls and shards.

Hero Rarities and What They Mean

Heroes come in three rarities: Rare, Epic, and Legendary. The difference isn’t just stats—it also affects how many skills a hero can unlock:

  • Rare Heroes: Have up to 4 skills.
  • Epic and Legendary Heroes: Can unlock all 5 skills.

Each hero has a Rage skill they can use in combat once their squad builds enough rage. Alongside this, they have passive skills that provide stat boosts or other benefits. Some of these passives can even modify or enhance their Rage skills when fully upgraded.

As expected, Legendary heroes tend to have the strongest abilities, but even Rare and Epic heroes have solid roles—especially in farming and support situations.

Leveling Up and Using Talent Trees

Once you recruit a hero, the next step is upgrading them. Heroes level up using Books of Experience, which can be earned through summoning, missions, or events. Each level gives your hero a talent point, which can be invested in their talent tree.

Talent trees let you specialize heroes based on your needs. Some trees focus on a specific type of bender troops as well as more generalized upgrades to all troops, while others provide boosts to gathering, marching, or defense. You don’t have to follow a specific path, but choosing a focus helps make the most of your resources.

A level 10 hero might not feel very different from a level 1, but by level 20–30, those talent perks start stacking in meaningful ways.

Rage and Passive Abilities

Each hero’s Rage skill activates automatically in combat once the rage bar fills. This skill often deals damage, heals, or provides buffs or debuffs, depending on the hero’s role. You can’t trigger it manually, but upgrading the hero boosts its effectiveness.

The passive skills play a huge role outside of battle too. Some increase troop attack or defense, while others boost march speed or reduce gathering time. These effects become crucial when you’re trying to gather resources faster or respond quickly on the world map.

Knowing which hero fits what role will help you assign them to the right jobs, whether you’re farming wood or launching a raid.

Combat Heroes vs. Utility Heroes

Not all heroes are built for the frontlines. Many heroes specialize in resource gathering, march speed, or support roles. These are just as valuable as combat-focused heroes, especially when you’re trying to grow your city.

  • Combat Heroes: Focused on troop damage, healing, or debuffing enemies. Best used in Avatar Trail, PvP battles, or attacking world map threats.
  • Utility Heroes: Have passives that reduce gathering time, boost load capacity, or increase speed. Great for farming and logistics.

As a beginner to Avatar: Realms Collides, you’ll want to build teams for both roles. Don’t neglect your utility heroes—they can give you a huge edge over time.

Hero Shard Management

Hero shards can unlock a new hero or upgrade the star level of an existing one. Star upgrades improve the hero’s stats and unlock more of their skills. However, don’t rush to use shards on every hero you pull. It’s smarter to focus on heroes with useful passives or strong combat skills.

Save up shards for Legendary heroes when possible. If you’re close to unlocking a key character, completing Scout House missions can help fill in the gaps.

Also, keep an eye on limited-time events where shard drops are boosted or available through missions. These are great chances to power up your core lineup.
