Magic Chess: Go Go Beginner's Guide to Master the Core Game Mechanics

Magic Chess: Go Go is an exciting auto-battler strategy game developed by Moonton, set in the world of Mobile Legends. Combining elements of chess with hero-based tactics, the game challenges players to create powerful team compositions using various heroes from the Mobile Legends universe. Although the game is quite new, the auto-chess gameplay system is something that many games have replicated in the past. This beginners guide sheds light on the core game mechanics along with explaining the game systems that set the game apart from its competitors. Let’s begin!
Understanding the Gameplay Mechanics of Magic Chess: Go Go
For those unaware, Magic Chess: Go Go is a subsidiary game of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, a MOBA hit by Moonton. The developers have copied the core game mode of MLBB called “Magic Chess” and spun it into a standalone game altogether with new additions. The game follows a strict auto-chess gameplay style wherein you start with a roster of few heroes and gradually unlock more through different rounds. The premise of the game is that multiple battles take place, and the victor from these battles damages the enemy’s direct HP. Hence, the more you win, the easier it is to stay at the top and preserve your HP.
All heroes are assigned a position according to which they can be placed. For example, Chang’e is a back line hero that can deal decent damage from afar. There are multiple different rounds such as hero round, creep round, etc. Before you can begin playing the game, you must first complete the short tutorial. We recommend paying attention to this tutorial as it visually explains all the game mechanics.
In this game, your goal is to defeat seven other players in a chess-style game. The main gaming mechanics are the same as in Magic Chess mode. However, this game includes a greater selection of MLBB characters and equipment. And there is a significant difference in the creep rounds, which now include Go Go Cards in addition to the regular equipment and crystals. All of this might be sounding nostalgic to MLBB players as Magic Chess is literally the same game mode with newer hero and equipment additions.
What are Hero Synergies?
All heroes in Magic Chess: Go Go are assigned a faction according to which they interact with the synergy system in the game. Hero synergy are extra buffs that you can provide to heroes from the same faction. Synergies are really helpful in ranked games and high elo games wherein players are more experienced and will ideally use heroes from the same faction to boost their stats and provide them with extra utility buffs. These buffs are given in the form of overall stats, such as increased attack, defense, and MAX HP.
What are Little Commanders?
At the start of each match, you’ll select a Little Commander. These Commanders represent your character in the game and provide special abilities that can affect the battle. This game has a large number of Commanders, some of which are not even available in the Magic Chess mode. This game’s commander system is drastically different from Magic Chess. Unlike in Magic Chess, each Commander has both passive and active skills, as well as emblems.
Some commanders, including Layla, have two passive abilities. Commanders have Star levels, and by leveling up the Commanders, you can gain access to their improved skills. In contrast to MLBB’s Magic Chess mode, you can combine three Commanders of the same star level to enhance their overall level. Popular Commanders include Remy, Benny, and Eva, each offering unique skills like earning extra gold or enhancing hero abilities.
Gold and Economy
Gold is the primary resource in Magic Chess: Go Go. You earn gold after each round based on your performance, winning streaks, and interest. Managing your gold wisely is essential for buying heroes, upgrading units, and rerolling for better heroes. Everything happens in the in-game shop. The in-game shop sells a range of products, including commanders, skins, and other stuff. You can buy these products using Chess Points or Diamonds, with the latter costing real money. All Commanders are available in the shop for 8,250 Chess Points or 150 Diamonds each.
Events
Events are the core bread and butter for live-service games like Magic Chess: Go Go. The game has a specific event section wherein you can check all the live and upcoming events coming to the game. These events are a great way to enhance your little commander collection along with unlocking unique items and skill effects. Events are also quite rewarding and simple to complete. Many free-to-play players can get free skins, chests, and gold from participating and completing these events. While some can be tedious, others can be easy such as a simple login-based event.
Go Go Pass
Much like MLBB has a Starlight battle pass, Magic Chess: Go Go also has a battle pass titled as “Go Go Pass”. This pass has 2 versions – Free and Premium. Naturally, the premium rewards are locked behind the purchase of the premium pass. The entire pass is divided into multiple levels that players can unlock by gaining Pass experience. You can gain Pass XP by completing all of the Daily, Weekly, and Special Tasks, as well as spending Diamonds to advance to higher tier levels.
Players can enjoy playing Magic Chess: Go Go on a bigger screen of their PC or Laptop via BlueStacks along with your keyboard and mouse.
