And with the stakes being this large, we need an equally massive army to protect everyone, which is why heroes from all parallel universes are joining forces.
MARVEL Future Revolution is the newest entry in the MARVEL universe of games on the mobile platform. Developed by Netmarble, this open world MMORPG will put you in the shoes of a variety of customizable heroes from the MARVEL universe, including Doctor Strange, Iron Man, Storm, Spider Man, and Black Widow, among others. And since the Omega Flight group is recruiting heroes for all dimensions, it’s not rare to see multiple identical copies of the same characters in the gathering hub, each belonging to a different players’ squads. After all, when the lives of countless people are at stake, you need all the help you can get to protect them; and what better help than multiple Captain Americas, or countless Star-Lords, to name a few?
As a mobile game, MARVEL Future Revolution is far from anything we’ve seen on the mobile platform, at least as far as superhero titles are concerned. Instead of a fighting game or a beat-em-up title, Future Revolution is actually an open world MMORPG where you get to form your own squad of powerful characters and go out into the far reaches of Primary Earth to complete missions and defeat the evil forces looking to take over the planet. However, to protect your charge, you must not only recruit the best superheroes, but you must also train them, level up their skills, and outfit them with powerful gear.
There’s quite a bit to consider when it comes to MARVEL Future Revolution, especially if you’re just getting started. If this is the case, then this beginner’s guide is definitely for you. Read on to learn some of the best beginner info and tips to help you set out on the right track.
Choose the Correct Hero for Your Play Style
As soon as you begin the game, you’ll be able to test out most of the available superheroes in the tutorial mission. This will give you an idea of how they work and what they can do, as well as set the events of the game in motion.
After finishing the tutorial, however, you’ll need to select your lead hero, which is the character with which you’ll start the game. Additionally, this decision will also influence the choice of mission you’ll have to do immediately afterward, as each character has a unique introductory task they’ll need to perform before being able to join Omega Flight.
As soon as you’re done with the intro, and are taken to Primary Earth, you’ll be able to add additional heroes to your squad for free, which is essentially like creating new characters in any other MMORPG. You have free reign over which heroes to recruit. However, you cannot remove heroes from your squad once you add them. Because of this, you must think carefully before making your decision—we recommend disregarding the meta and just choosing the ones you like the most.
You can choose up to four heroes at the beginning, and you can expand your roster to a maximum of eight by using Hero Slot Expansion Tickets, which can be purchased using Gems, the game’s premium currency. By purchasing four of these tickets, you can have all eight starter heroes on a single account. Most of the combat in MARVEL Future Revolution consists of real-time action battles, as well as a few QTEs here and there. However, in order to defeat the bad guys and complete your missions, you’ll need much more than good controls—you’ll also need to play it smart and avoid falling into the enemy’s traps. In other words, while it might be cool to rush into the fray launching your strongest skills with reckless abandon, this is a good way to get caught in a combo string and get hit by the enemy. And if you get hit enough, it’s game over.
A general rule of thumb for staying alive in MARVEL Future Revolution is that your defense is as important as your attack. And while dealing damage is the ultimate way to defeat your enemies, you achieve nothing if you get killed. For this reason, you also need to dodge as much as possible, especially when fighting against bosses and other tough enemies. Dodging is great since, aside from helping you get out of the way of enemy attacks, it also gives you a moment of invincibility, which will be very helpful for getting out of a bind.
Another good way to stay alive is to make liberal use of your crowd control skills. These attacks often have effects that can snare, stun, slow, or cripple the enemy’s movements or attacks in many ways. While they might not deal as much damage as other skills, they can give you an opening to exploit the enemy’s weaknesses while they’re stuck unable to move or attack.
Enhancing Your Heroes
Once you’ve decided on a hero or heroes to play with, you can start progressing through the story. However, as an action game with RPG elements, not only is your personal combat skill important, but also the power of your hero. This is because while you can dodge and counterattack if you’re good enough, the damage you can do is still determined by your hero’s level and stats.
There are a few ways to enhance your hero’s power, including the following:
- Equippables: This includes costumes, which also alter your character’s appearance, battle badges, and omega cards. All of these items can be freely equipped and swapped between heroes, and help to boost their stats. You can obtain these equippable items by completing missions, or from purchasing them from the shop.
- Leveling Up: As you continue playing and completing tasks, your hero will go up in level, which in turn will boost their stats. This is the easiest way to enhance your heroes, as they will inevitably level up as you play the game.
- Squad Rank: While you can only control one hero at a time, you can farm materials and use them to purchase squad ranks, which are permanent upgrades that affect all your heroes. In this sense, if you play as Doctor Strange mainly, and manage to go up a few squad ranks by investing materials, you will unlock permanent bonuses for Storm, Iron Man, and any other heroes that are in your squad when you decide to play with them.
- Skill Upgrades: Once you reach a certain level, you can start investing gold to upgrade your skills, which will increase their damage as well as enhance their special effects. In the skills menu, you can also swap masteries as set the skills you want to use in combat. While you’ll almost always want to use the most damaging skills, some battles might call for specific effects. Always keep the mission in mind when it comes to choosing your skills.
- Enhance Potential: Upon reaching level 19 with the current hero, you can start using potential reports in order to enhance their stats. These upgrades are independent from their gear and level and are just another way to boost their performance.
- Specializations: This type of upgrade is unlocked far into the game after completing a certain mission, and allows you to use special materials to enhance specific stats and give special boosts to a hero. By working on a hero’s specialization, you can essentially fine-tune their performance and allow them to play a specific role. Whether you want to adopt a more defensive play style, or want to boost a character’s offense at the expense of their survivability, the specializations menu is the key to performing these adjustments.
As you progress further into the game, you’ll unlock other ways to upgrade your heroes, which you’ll also need to spend time and resources on in order to boost your power. However, if you’re just starting, you’ll only need to worry about leveling up, upgrading skills, equipping the best badges and costumes available, and enhancing your squad rank—the rest will come in due time. If you’re looking for the best bang for your buck, however, we recommend focusing on your squad rank, since these provide bonuses not only to your selected hero, but to all the heroes in your squad for a one-time investment.
And speaking of upgrading your hero, all of these processes require a certain type of materials in order to proceed. And depending on the type of upgrade, the material requirements will vary. For instance, to upgrade a skill, you need to first reach a certain level with your hero, and then spend gold on the corresponding skill. On the other hand, to enhance a hero’s potential, you must use Potential Reports, which is another type of material obtained through completing specific missions. In this sense, you might want to farm different missions depending on what you’re looking to enhance.
The Main Story
Choosing and upgrading heroes is one of the most important parts of MARVEL Future Revolution. This is because keeping your characters up to date with their upgrades will make it far easier for you to complete the missions in the main story, which should be your main concern at the beginning.
Completing story missions will be the key to unlocking everything in the game; from leveling up to obtaining different battle badges and costumes, the main campaign will take you through most of what you need to know in MARVEL Future Revolution, while also giving you lots of rewards for your troubles.
