Mortal Kombat: Onslaught is a brand-new RPG, developed and published by Warner Bros. International Enterprises. Mortal Kombat: Onslaught has a lot of unique quirks, differentiating it from other Mortal Kombat games. Some features include the combat being real-time and the platform being mobile. A unique gacha system is also in place where players can summon and collect over 50+ characters. Sadly, the game is currently available only in select regions in an open beta state. Mortal Kombat: Onslaught is going to be available to be downloaded and installed as a free-to-play game on both the Google Play Store and iOS App Store once it has launched globally.

In this tier list for Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, we will be listing in-depth details on different characters, while listing them in different tiers according to their strength in-game. We have compiled the rankings based on reputed sources such as content creators/ official discord and reddit communities. As with any pre-released game, we advise players to take the rankings of characters in a speculative manner and not a definitive one. A lot of changes are expected to take place once the game launches globally.

S Tier Characters

Let’s take a look at some of the characters in this tier:

GORO

Goro is a Spirit elemental character that is classified as a Defender from the Shokan faction. His description reads as follows – “Goro is a character in the Mortal Kombat fighting game series. The Prince of the Shokan and former champion of the Mortal Kombat Tournament, he is one of the most recognizable and memorable characters in the series. He is a frequent, recurring antagonist in the series and major ally to the sorcerer Shang Tsung. Goro made his debut as one of the few original characters in the first Mortal Kombat game while serving as a sub-boss to Shang Tsung. He serves as a sub-boss to many games in the series after.”

His 1st active ability Shokan Slam states the following – “Area of Effect Damage that applies KNOCKDOWN. AOE Radius increases at level 7.” Goro’s 2nd active ability Krushing Defeat does as follow – “Area of Effect damage followed by a self-ATTACK buff. AOE radius increases at level 4.” His 3rd active ability Demoralizing Presence states the following – “Decreases incoming melee damage to self but increases incoming ranged damage to self. Increases own TENACITY Stat” Meanwhile, Goro’s 4th active ability Dragon Breath states the following – “Area of Effect Damage that applies BURN. Area of Effect size increases at levels 3 and 7.”

DEADEYE ERRON BLACK

Deadeye Erron Black is a Body character that is classified as a Physical Ranger from the Black Dragon faction. His description reads as follows – “Erron Black is a mercenary gunslinger from Earthrealm in the service of Kotal Kahn, and a former associate of the Black Dragon until Kano’s betrayal. In his Mortal Kombat X Arcade Ending, it is shown that he was hired by Shang Tsung 150 years ago to murder an Earthrealm warrior in exchange for magic that would slow his aging process. Although he resides in Outworld, Erron was born and raised in 19th century Texas and, as such, has many Old West mannerisms and makes frequent use of Old Western idioms.”

His 1st active ability To the Gallows states the following – “Single targeted attack that deals 108% of his Attack as damage.” Deadeye Erron Black’s 2nd active ability Explosive Shells does as follow – “Single target attack. Also empower all BASIC RANGED attacks to deal area effect damage.” His 3rd active ability Sniper’s Luck states the following – “Increase team CRITICAL DAMAGE for BASIC attacks.” Meanwhile, Deadeye Erron Black’s 4th active ability Black Dragon Mark states the following – “Aimed single target attack that applies MARKED and DEFENSE debuff.”

RAZOR HAT KUNG LAO

Razor Hat Kung Lao is a Mind character that is classified as a Melee Warrior from the Order of Light faction. His description reads as follows – “Kung Lao is a former Shaolin monk and a member of the White Lotus Society. He stands in the shadow of his great ancestor, the Great Kung Lao, but unlike his great ancestor, he has no desire to be champion and would rather live a life of peace. However, this was retconned in MK 2011, wherein Lao is now eager to prove himself equal to Liu Kang. He is also shown to be highly conceited and immature, although these traits mask a deep-seated insecurity and inferiority complex vis a vis Liu Kang. Much like Liu Kang, he has trained under master Bo’ Rai Cho.”

His 1st active ability Spin-Zhu states the following – “Single target melee attack that deals damage 3 times and applies KNOCK UP. Additional damage on KNOCK UP.” Razor Hat Kung Lao’s 2nd active ability One-Two does as follow – “Single Target Melee attack that deals damage then throws his hat at an additional enemy dealing damage.” His 3rd active ability Razor’s Edge states the following – “Whenever a hat attack hits an enemy, BLEED is applied for a duration. Whenever BLEED is applied, this character’s Special Meter increases by a percentage.” Meanwhile, Razor Hat Kung Lao’s 4th active ability Shaved Thin states the following – “Single Target Ranged attack that deals damage and bounces to nearby enemies dealing reduced damage.”

SHANG TSUNG

Shang Tsung is a Spirit character that is classified as a Ranged mage from the Earthrealm faction. His description reads as follows – “A powerful, deadly sorcerer and a primary villain in the Mortal Kombat franchise, Shang Tsung is a shape-shifter who needs to consume souls in order to sustain his health and life. In the Mortal Kombat series, he is the epitome of cunning and decadence, as symbolized by his preference for lavish parties, grand palaces, and stylish clothing. Unlike the crude Shao Kahn, this bombast is a facade, disguising Shang Tsung’s true intellectual and mental sophistication. Despite this, he is usually depicted as Shao Kahn’s subordinate, following whatever orders the Emperor give him.”

His 1st active ability Ground Eruption states the following – “Single target ranged attack that applies KNOCK UP. Additional damage after KNOCK UP.” Shang Tsung’s 2nd active ability Empower Souls does as follow – “Increase the ATTACK of teammates by a percentage.” His 3rd active ability Malignant Sorcery states the following – “Increases the CRITICAL CHANCE of Magic teammates by a percentage.” Meanwhile, Shang Tsung’s 4th active ability Soul Well states the following – “Heals teammates for a percentage of his MAX HEALTH every 3 seconds for a duration”

SINDEL

Sindel is a Mind character that is classified as a Ranged Mage from the Outworld faction. Her description reads as follows – “Despite her menacing appearance, Sindel is kind and benevolent in nature, at least in the original timeline. She rules the Realm of Edenia alongside her daughter, Princess Kitana. Sindel’s power appears to be of an inner, ethereal nature in more than one way. She is a distinctly older and more mature character, with flowing grey hair and a regal attitude befitting of her role as Queen of Edenia. She has a natural affinity with aerial magic, as evidenced by her ability to levitate and manipulate sonic waves.”

Her 1st active ability Crippling Reach states the following – “Single-Target Ranged Attack. If the target is suffering from Unhealable an additional enemy is targeted for additional Ranged damage. At Level 7, any debuff can cause the triggering of additional targets” Sindel’s 2nd active ability Weaken the Rats does as follow – “Single-Target Ranged attack that Purges a single buff from her target. Boosts granted by Passives cannot be Purged. At Level 4, she gains a Damage buff for a duration on successful Purge” Her 3rd active ability Sorceress Intent states the following – “Magic teammates receive a Damage boost against an enemy affected by Unhealable.” Meanwhile, Sindel’s 4th active ability Shattered Will states the following – “Single-Target Ranged Attack that applies Unhealable to the target for a duration and damage. All enemies in the path of her scream take additional damage.”

Let’s take a look at some of the characters in this tier:

UNDYING SHAO KAHN

Undying Shao Kahn is a Mind character that is classified as a Melee Defender from the Outworld faction. His in-game description reads as follows – “Shao Kahn the Konqueror is the former Emperor of Outworld, and has served as the main antagonist for most of the series. In many respects, he resembles a large Asian warrior, and is well known for his God-like strength which rivals, if not outright exceeds, that of Raiden and other Godly characters. He is also known for his extreme callousness, brutality, and ferocity in battle, as well as his fondness for personal executions, although he has occasionally spared the lives of his subordinates after proving their worth to him.”

His 1st active ability Shoulder Charge states the following – “Single target melee attack with 100% chance to STUN for a duration on successful Critical Hit.” Undying Shao Kahn’s 2nd active ability Kahn’s Wrath does as follow – “Empowers this character’s Normal Attacks for a duration. When a Normal Attack hits Critical, this character deals Vampirism damage. After empowering, this character attacks with a single target melee attack that has a 100% Critical Chance” His 3rd active ability Kahn’s Fury states the following – “When HEALTH is 60% or lower increase ATTACK. When defeated, REVIVE once per match. At level 4, receive an Attack Buff upon Revive.”

Meanwhile, Undying Shao Kahn’s 4th active ability Dragon Scales states the following – “Empowers his armor, absorbing a percentage of ATTACK from surrounding opponents and converting it to his DEFENSE for a duration. Applies TAUNT to nearby enemies. While in this state, cause BLEED for a duration to character performing melee attacks on him. At level 4, absorption radius increases.”

TANYA

Tanya is a Mind character that is classified as a Ranged Attacker from the Outworld faction. Her description reads as follows – “Tanya is a slender, gloomy woman from Edenia. Originally introduced as an ostensible innocent, she was quickly revealed to be corrupted by evil, a worshiper of Shinnok and an ally to the Brotherhood of Shadow. After Shinnok’s defeat, she later served Shao Kahn, the Deadly Alliance, and Onaga. Tanya seems to view herself as a survivor more than anything else, justifying her choices as being the “right decisions”. She is one of the few henchwomen from the Mortal Kombat series, and prides herself on her superior knowledge of magic and diplomacy.”

Her 1st active ability Surging Blast states the following – “Ranged Area of Effect Attack. At Level 7, the Area of Effect size is increased.” Tanya’s 2nd active ability Ignition does as follow – “Grants an Attack buff to self for a duration.” Her 3rd active ability Inner Fire states the following – “After using her Special Attack, Tanya and all Mind teammates gain a Special Charge Rate boost for a duration.” Meanwhile, Tanya’s 4th active ability Scorched Earth states the following – “Ranged Area of Effect Attack that causes damage for a duration. At Level 7, the Area of Effect size is increased.”

NOOB SAIBOT

Noob Saibot is a Mind character that is classified as a melee defender from the NetherRealm faction. His description reads as follows – “Before his death, Bi-Han was the original Sub-Zero, one of the most powerful and devout warriors of the Lin Kuei clan. While essentially neutral, he was a cold-blooded, vicious assassin whose soul had become corrupted from years of violence and remorseless killing. At the end of the first Mortal Kombat tournament, Bi-Han was murdered by Scorpion in retaliation for his own death at the cryomancer’s hands. He then descended to the fifth plane of the Netherrealm where he was resurrected by the sorcerer Quan Chi who had earlier resurrected Scorpion.”

His 1st active ability Sickle Slam states the following – “Single Target damage that applies an ATTACK DEBUFF for a duration.” Noob Saibot’s 2nd active ability Dark Ritual does as follow – “When the Shadow Double dies, gain a DEFENSE BUFF for a duration.” His 3rd active ability As One states the following – “Increase MAX HEALTH by a percentage per Magic character on the team.” Meanwhile, Noob Saitbot’s 4th active ability Shadow Double states the following – “Summons a Shadow Double that absorbs half of all damage taken by Noob. Shadow Double has a percentage of Noob’s stats and a percentage of Noob’s ATTACK. While the summon is active, Noob’s special meter will not gain charge.”

SCORPION

Scorpion is a Spirit character that is classified as a Melee Fighter from the NetherRealm faction. His description reads as follows – “It is known that his father, a former member of the Shirai Ryu, forbade his son from joining the clan, as he did not wish for his son to live the life of an assassin. However, Hanzo joined in spite of his father’s wishes in order to provide his wife Harumi and son Satoshi with a comfortable life. After he and his clan are exterminated, Scorpion reappears as a hell-spawned Spectre, inexorably seeking vengeance against those responsible for the destruction of his family and clan.”

His 1st active ability Flaming Flip Kick states the following – “Single target melee attack that deals 72% of his attack as damage to the target.” Scorpion’s 2nd active ability Eruption does as follow – “Single target attack that applies KNOCK UP. Additional damage after KNOCK UP.” His 3rd active ability Spear Krush states the following – “Single target attack that pulls the target to the attacker, dealing 500% of his Attack as damage to the target.”

B Tier Characters

Let’s look at some of the characters in this tier:

SUB-ZERO

Sub-zero is a Mind character that is classified as a melee Defender from the EarthReam faction. His description reads as follows – “There are two incarnations of Sub-Zero, both of whom are siblings: older brother Bi-Han, and younger brother Kuai Liang. Both are blue garbed warriors who, at different times, have used the codename “Sub-Zero”, and both are members of the Lin Kuei. They are descended from Cryomancers, an exiled Edenian race possessing the ability to generate and control ice. However, they were born in Earthrealm and only the younger Sub-Zero would discover his heritage (in the original timeline).”

His 1st active ability Icy Incitement states the following – “Area of Effect damage that causes TAUNT to nearby MINION enemies. At level 4, TAUNT effects all characters. Gain a TENACITY Buff for a duration.” Sub-zero’s 2nd active ability Ice Armor does as follow – “Increase personal DEFENSE by a percentage.” His 3rd active ability Frozen Tundra states the following – “Area of Effect attack that deals damage and causes FREEZE for a duration or until the target loses a percentage of their Max Health.”

KITANA

Kitana is a Body character that is classified as a ranged Attacker from the Outworld faction. Her in-game description reads as follows – “Princess Kitana is 10,000 years old but is considered young in her realm of Edenia and has the appearance of a young woman. Throughout the years, she rose to great importance; first as the loyal stepdaughter of Shao Kahn, then as his enemy, tearing herself away from his grasp and freeing her home realm of Edenia. She also led an army into Outworld to combat any chance of Shao Kahn rising to power again.”

Her 1st active ability Empowered Fans states the following – “Ranged attack that bounces to nearby enemies with reduced damage.” Kitana’s 2nd active ability Begone! does as follow – “On BLOCK, counter attack dealing damage and causing KNOCKBACK.” Her 3rd active ability Wicked Gale states the following – “Summons a ranged projectile that travels in a straight line.”

JAX

Jax is a Body character that is classified as a melee Defender from the EarthRealm faction. His description reads as follows – “Jax made his debut in Mortal Kombat II. He is portrayed as an archetypal African-American hero. In the Special Forces’ chain of command, he is Sonya Blade’s direct superior and the catalyzing force of Sonya’s impulsiveness. Jax is clear-headed, careful and always keeping a watch on what his men are doing. When the need arises, he is a beast on the battlefield with the attitude and ferocity of a lion. He unscrupulously makes use of the most advanced technology at his disposal to improve both himself and his unit.”

His 1st active ability Bionic Fist states the following – “Single targeted damaging skill that deals 96% of his Attack as damage to the enemy” Jax’s 2nd active ability Painkiller does as follow – “When Health falls below 40%, heal for a percentage of MAX HEALTH.” His 3rd active ability Major Pain states the following – “Area of Effect attack that deals 320% of his attack as damage”
