Pokémon TCG Pocket Venusaur Promo Event Guide – Overview, Strategies, and Rewards
It seems the developers at Pokémon TCG Pocket are going all out in terms of rewards with their new events. The latest Venusaur Promo event is a solo battle type event wherein players need to defeat Grass-type decks of AI controlled enemies in order to reap massive rewards such as exclusive cosmetic arts, new cards, and much more. The event runs for a period of 2 weeks, starting from November 29th, all the way till December 13th. Players can participate without needing energy. This guide will cover all the basics to help you get your hands on Venusaur and other grass type Pokemon!
Overview of the Venusaur Promo Event
The Venusaur promo event is a solo battle type event wherein players will need to battle against Grass-type decks of all varieties. During this event, there are four tiers of Solo Battles available to challenge during the timeframe, each with its own set of tasks and awards. During the Venusaur Drop Event, there are four Solo Battles available, each of which requires one Event Stamina to attempt. That Event Stamina is only spent on successful attempts, so challenge the most challenging deck you can manage. The higher the difficulty, the more likely you are to get a Promo Pack. Every time you beat the Expert-level deck, you’ll receive a Promo Pack.
New Cards and Items
The event features five new promo cards, including a new full-art version of Venusaur and two mechanically distinct cards that provide additional deckbuilding choices. The final reward of this event is a full-art Venusaur card which is different artistically but similar in terms of abilities to that available in Genesis Apex deck. A new form of Jigglypuff with Sing, which puts your opponent’s Active Pokemon to sleep for a single Colorless Energy, and a new variant of Haunter with Surprise Attack provide additional deckbuilding choices.
Although the Venusaur card isn’t even close to the utility provided by Venusaur EX, it still can be a viable substitute to be used in Grass type decks. Greninja is another rare card that players can get in full art form from the event. It is often used in a Greninja/Weezing deck to poison and confuse enemies. The event also introduces a few new accessories that are not yet available to players: the CPU opponent uses a Venusaur playmat, sleeves, and a coin depicting Venusaur and Bulbasaur near a pool of water at twilight.
Beginner Difficulty – Ivysaur Deck
The Beginner deck consists primarily of Basic Pokemon, with a few Stage 1 Pokemon and two Pokeballs for backup. All 18 Pokemon in this deck are vulnerable to Fire, and the strongest, Ivysaur, has only 90 HP. This should be a simple game with any Fire deck. The tasks and rewards can be seen below:
Battle Task | Reward |

Knock Out your opponent’s Active Pokemon one time with an attack from a Fire-type Pokemon. | Event Hourglass x3 |

Intermediate Difficulty – Venusaur/Scyther Deck
The Intermediate deck gets a few enhancements, including one Venusaur and two Scythers. It also acquires Professor’s Research and a Farfetch’d, making it slightly more reliable and less vulnerable to Fire-type attacks. The tasks and rewards can be seen below:

Advanced Difficulty – Venusaur EX Deck
The upgraded Venusaur ex deck improves numerous cards by replacing weak Grass-type Pokemon like Weedle with tanky Colorless-type Pokemon like Kangaskhan. The primary goal of these Pokemon is to soften your Active Pokemon while giving the PC time to locate and power up Venusaur.
Venusaur ex need four Energy for its most powerful attack and three for its weakest attack. Using Sabrina to compel the CPU to switch in Venusaur ex or Ivysaur allows you to attack before it can get enough energy, or force the CPU to squander Energy or an X-Speed to swap it out. Expert Difficulty – Venusaur EX and Liligant Deck
The Expert deck can be quite challenging to deal with, thanks to the deadly combo presented in this deck. Petilil and Lilligant replace the Gogoat line, providing the deck with much-needed energy acceleration. Your opponent will try to attack with Lilligant whenever possible, utilizing Leaf Supply’s Energy acceleration to power up Venusaur ex. Getting early KOs on Lilligant and Ivysaur is critical to shutting down this deck before Venusaur ex becomes a significant threat. The tasks and rewards can be seen below:
