Ragnarok X: Rise of Taekwon Class Guide - Everything You Need to Know About the Classes and Job System
The class system in Ragnarok X can be quite complex, especially if you’re completely new to the Ragnarok Online franchise. Luckily, with this guide, you’ll be able to learn everything you need to know about this intricate system, and hopefully get an idea of what class is the best for you.
Progressing and Unlocking New Jobs
Contrary to what you might find in other MMORPGs, players in Ragnarok have always started out as Novices, which is the base class that has only a few basic skills, and serves only to introduce the players to the combat in the game. However, in order to advance to your first, second, and third job advancement prompts, you’ll need to level up considerably. Luckily, the first job change, which will set you on your path towards becoming a full-fledged adventurer, happens very early into the game, after which your adventure will open up considerably.
The first job change in Ragnarok X happens when you reach base level 10, which is when you’ll finish the tutorial and leave the starting area. However, in order to advance further in your job line, you need to gain job experience and level up your current job. Specifically, the second class change happens at job level 50, while the third job change takes place at job level 70.
In order to progress, you must not only grind and farm experience, but you must also grind intelligently, prioritizing farming job experience over base experience, in order to unlock more jobs and stronger skills.
Ragnarok X: Rise of Taekwon Classes
Now that we know how to unlock new jobs and progress our classes in Ragnarok X, let’s go ahead and talk about the classes that you’ll find in this game:
-
Swordsman
The standard cookie cutter tank and melee physical DPS class in Ragnarok X. This is regarded as one of the best OP classes in the game, mainly due to its very high defensive stats combined with its strong skills. As such, while the Swordsman is the class of choice for beginners, veterans can also wreak havoc with it.
The Swordsman can transition into the Knight, which is an even stronger version of the Swordsman that can fulfill a similar role, or into the Crusader, which adds more defensive skills and buffs to the mix.
-
Acolyte
Regarded as one of the most important classes in Ragnarok X, the Acolytes are the backbone of any party whenever they’re tackling group content, mostly due to their powerful buffs and healing skills, which allow them to boost the party’s potential while also keeping everyone topped up.
While the Acolytes are known for their healing prowess, they can go even further by transitioning into the Priest, who possesses even stronger healing skills, or alternatively embark on the Monk’s path, which trades some of their healing for the ability to inflict massive damage using nothing but their bare fists.
-
Mage
Standard spellcasters that can rain elemental destruction on groups of enemies in order to take out multiple foes at any given moment. The Mage is a powerful class that specializes mostly in inflicting AoE damage in order to deal with groups of weaker enemies, which makes them into one of the most powerful classes for AoE farming.
The Mages can transition into the Wizard, which further boosts their elemental destructive potential, or the Sage, which trades in some of their damage for the ability to provide some support via erecting powerful barriers and granting protection from magical attacks.
-
Thief
Thieves in Ragnarok have always been one of the most powerful classes when it comes to single-target burst DPS, especially in the context of PvP battles. They shift in and out of sight with their dazzling stealth skills, and specialize in taking out enemies with a single powerful blow.
The Thief can transition into either the Assassin, which is more suited for lengthy hand-to-hand combat encounters using powerful poisons and claw weapons to whittle down the enemy, or into the Rogue, who focuses more on stealth and subterfuge in order to inflict massive damage from the shadows.
-
Archer
Masters of ranged combat that wield their trusty bow and arrows to dispatch enemies from long distances. Archers are regarded as one of the strongest classes for single-target sustained DPS, which makes them into the ideal job for taking down high value targets. Their skill set includes abilities for dealing lots of damage in both AoE and single-target variations, as well as some CC to snare enemies and prevent them from moving.
Archers can transition either into Hunters, which have an even stronger ranged offering, or Bards and Dancers (for male and female characters, respectively), who forgo the bow in lieu of using powerful musical arts to inflict damage and support their teams.
-
Merchant
Arguably the most interesting job in the entire game, as Merchants use the power of money to inflict damage and survive on the battlefield. They are also the only class that can set up stalls to sell items to other players, which makes them masters of the financial art of making cash.
Merchants can progress into either Blacksmiths, who are blessed with the power of creation and salesmanship, or Alchemists, who can mix different reagents to create a wide variety of effects, mainly of the damaging kind. Alchemists are also unique in that they can create and summon homunculi in order to assist them in combat.
How to Choose the Best Class in Ragnarok X
As you can probably guess by now, the wide variety of options in both classes and subclasses available to us might make it quite difficult to settle on just one of them. Luckily, if you’re playing Ragnarok X: Rise of Taekwon on PC with BlueStacks, you can use the Instance Manager to play on multiple classes at the same time, which will hopefully help you settle on one main choice. Alternatively, we strongly suggest simply choosing your class based on the role that you want to fill.
With some exceptions like Acolytes, most Ragnarok X classes are perfectly viable for soloing most of the content. And even in the case of the Acolytes, while they still have some damaging skills, they are the class with the most demand in group content, which means that you’ll likely never struggle to find a band of adventurers to party with, which in turn will help you progress much faster than if you were playing by yourself.
