RAID Shadow Legends F2P Shard Guide Tips on when to Summon and when to Avoid

Managing your shards properly is one of the most important skills for any free-to-play (F2P) player in RAID: Shadow Legends. Since the average player doesn’t have unlimited access to sacred, void, and ancient shards, every decision matters. Smart shard management can drastically accelerate your account’s growth, while bad timing can leave you stuck for months. In this guide, we will be delving deeper into the shard mechanics and giving tips on how free-to-play players can manage their shards effectively to grow their account.
Types of Shards in RAID: Shadow Legends
If you are a new player, this section will be extremely helpful. If you’re a returning player, it’s going to be equally helpful as the game has evolved a lot in the past few years. For example, new shards and rarity of champions called “Mythical” have been added. In total, there are 5 types of shards that players can summon:
- Mystery Shards: Basic, almost worthless for F2P long-term (mostly used for fusion food).
- Ancient Shards: Main source of Rare, Epic, and Legendary champions.
- Void Shards: Summon Void champions (no weak affinity) — highly valuable.
- Sacred Shards: Best chance at Epics and Legendaries, but extremely rare for F2P players.
- Primal Shards: The only shards that can help you summon a mythical rarity champion.
Mystery Shard Management Tips
As a general rule, mystery shards are by far the most common type of shard any player in the game will receive. You get them free daily from the shop, the market, event rewards, tournament rewards, daily free shop package, campaign stages, dungeons, clan boss, and many other avenues. You will likely never run out of mystery shards unless you’re deliberately trying to empty them.
The best thing about mystery shards is that they give you 1 point for any type of summoning related event or tournament. Our pro tip would be that f2p players save and accumulate as many mystery shards as possible before fusion events. Use up all of them during any particular fusion-related summoning event/tournament. As you will have them in hundreds or thousands likely, they are guaranteed to give you tons of points!
Ancient Shard Management Tips
Ancient shards are going to be your main bread and butter shard as these shards can offer you alluring legendary grade champions, albeit at a miniscule chance. Still, there is a chance. Plus, these shards also give tons of points during fusion-related events and tournaments. In the beginning, accumulating ancient shards can be a pain but it gets easier as you progress in the demon clan boss. You can also get ancient shards by completing campaign star missions, event and tournament milestones, new player missions, and marketplace.
Alternatively, you can also buy them directly from the shop via paying Gems. Make sure to avoid summoning ancient shards any time as a f2p player. You need to summon them during special summoning related events and tournaments, even better if they are during a champion fusion event.
Void Shards Management Tips
Void shards are perhaps one of the hardest shard currencies to regularly get. The best way to get more void shards for a f2p player is by repeatedly killing the demon clan boss on the highest difficulty possible. Alternatively, they can also be purchased from the Tag Team Arena shop weekly, appear as rewards in event/tournament milestones, and can be earned by winning in the Doom Tower (both normal and hard difficulty).
Again, like with any type of shard, the best time to use your void shards is during fusion events. Wait for a summoning related event our tournament like Champion Chase or Summon Rush. Void shards give a ton of points for these events.
Sacred Shard Management Tips
Sacred shards are some of the most premium quality of shards that any player can get in RAID. This is because these shards only give you epic or legendary grade champions, with the probability of legendary champions being 6%. As a f2p player, you have limited avenues of getting them. Your core source of sacred shards would be the daily clan boss chests by defeating nightmare or ultra nightmare difficulty demon lord.
Other sources include hard and normal difficulty of the Doom Tower. Sacred shards should only be pulled during fusion-related summoning events as they give tons of points for any event or tournament, bolstering your confidence in completing the fusion event. Otherwise, if you’re feeling lucky, you can also open these shards during 1+1 legendary summoning event, or a 10X summoning event featuring champions you want to have on your account.
Primal Shards Management Tips
Primal shards were introduced relatively late in the lifespan of the game. They are your core source of obtaining mythical grade champions. As a f2p player, you only have some limited sources from where you can obtain these shards. The primary methods for acquiring Primal Shards as an F2P player involve daily login rewards, accumulating Primal Quartz, and potentially participating in events where Primal Shard drop rates are boosted.
