Rebel Skies features fast-paced strategy combat in real-time against both AI automated enemies and real players. Players can summon and recruit different units in the form of cards from the innate recruitment system. Units come in different factions – Ascension, Legion, and Rogue. In this guide, we will be delving deeper into the combat mechanics and sharing some helpful tips on how players can win more matches by analysing their enemies.

The Combat Mechanics of Rebel Skies Explained

First and foremost, we must explain the combat system and genre. The battles happen in a real-time fashion with your allies and core on the left-hand side, and enemies and their core on the right-hand side. The first team to destroy the opponent’s core wins the game. There is also a time limit attached to each match, so the team with the highest damage on the enemy core after the time limit ends wins the game. The cores are protected by a shield for the first 30 seconds of the game. Ideally, this is the time when you want to set up faster energy generation and start sending out units to attack enemies.

On the bottom side, you should see blue energy bars counting to 10. This is the energy section and you can view how much energy you currently have. Energy generates at its own pace but players can increase by placing energy generators. We will cover these mechanics later in this guide. Both sides can have up to 10 energy at maximum. The area covered by your units is called a “Control Zone”. Players can deploy units within their control zone, even if it means touching the maximum line. It’s recommended that you always summon your troops nearest to the enemy core, so that they can directly attack it.

Deck Building Explained

In Rebel Skies, the combat happens in a real-time card-based style wherein players have access to their deck of 20 cards. You can choose the cards in the deck yourself or let the AI (Artificial Intelligence) make the decision. Cards come in 3 different factions:

  • Ascension
  • Legion
  • Rogue

Using cards of the same faction is beneficial for synergizing the deck together. You also receive several buffs when you take up cards from the same faction. Coming to the battles, they can vary depending on the game mode you are selecting. The campaign battles are more like stat check battles wherein you only need to have higher CP (Combat Power) than the enemies. Your deck should have a combat rating next to them. This is a cumulative stat and can be increased when you increase the power level of individual cards within the deck.

Learn about the Different Card Types

The combat happens in real-time wherein players have full control over the usage of cards. There are different types of cards in the game that perform different functions:

  • Energy Generator – These are amazing utility cards that let’s you build up to 3 energy generators near your controlled zone. Energy recharges over time at a slow pace initially. By placing more energy generators on the map, players will be able to get more energy in lesser time, aiding you in deploying more units. It costs 5 energy to deploy 1 energy generator, and each player can deploy up to 3 energy generators.
  • Unit Cards – These cards are your bread and butter all the way through the game. These cards are essentially commands to deploy the specific unit in battle. They take up energy and come in different rarities. A higher rarity card generally means a stronger unit but also means it will cost more energy to deploy on the field. Depending on your choices, these cards can be from any faction. It’s recommended that you have unit cards from the same faction to increase efficiency.
  • Spell Cards – These cards are essentially spells that players can use on any targeted area in the game. You can put these cards in the mix but it’s total RNG that they come up in the deck. Spell cards generally cost less energy than unit cards but that’s because their effects are permanent. For example, you can use the freeze card to freeze some units in a place or use the Lightning spell to deal damage to some units in a particular area.
