That’s why we’ve put together this tier list—to help you quickly identify the best characters in SWGOH and avoid wasting resources on those that won’t hold up in the long run.
The Best Star Wars Tier List
With a game as deep as SWGOH, finding the best characters isn’t always straightforward. Some units are powerhouses on their own, while others rely on team synergy to perform at their best. Between Grand Arena, Territory Wars, and Conquest, a character’s value can also change depending on the game mode.
This tier list offers a general ranking of characters based on their overall performance in multiple aspects, all of which revolve around the combat aspect of the game. While team composition and strategy matter, this guide will give you a solid foundation for choosing which characters to prioritize.

These rankings highlight the strongest and weakest characters in SWGOH. While chasing top-tier units is a smart move, understanding why they dominate is just as important. The meta is always shifting due to updates and new character releases, so keeping up with these changes will help you stay ahead in competitive play.
In the next sections, we’ll go over each tier in detail, breaking down why each character earned their ranking. This will help you understand their strengths, weaknesses, and ideal team compositions.
S Tier – The Best of the Best
S-tier characters are the strongest in SWGOH. These units can carry battles on their own, dominate in multiple game modes, and fit into top-tier teams. Whether they have overpowered abilities, exceptional synergy, or game-changing leadership skills, these characters are must-haves for any serious player.
Third Sister
Bringing one of the strongest Omicron abilities to the game, she dominates Grand Arena and Territory Wars. As a powerhouse Inquisitor, she punishes Jedi with ramping damage, Turn Meter control, and relentless durability. Her ability to stack offense and apply Purge quickly makes her a nightmare for many teams, especially when backed by a full Inquisitorius squad. Few characters can handle her sustained pressure, and with the right setup, she can even take down some Galactic Legends.
Jabba the Hutt
A top-tier Galactic Legend, Jabba thrives in PvE and PvP modes alike, excelling in Territory Battles, Grand Arena, and the Krayt Dragon Raid. His Hutt Cartel synergy makes him a unique leader, enabling powerful debuffs, Ultimate charge, and near-unbreakable sustain. Unlike other Galactic Legends, his ability to function without Speed reliance makes him incredibly dangerous in longer battles.
His kit revolves around applying Thermal Detonators, manipulating Turn Meter, and keeping his team alive through his tanky build. Paired with characters like Krrsantan and Boushh (Leia), he becomes an unstoppable force, slowly wearing down enemies while remaining nearly unkillable.
Lord Vader
One of the hardest-hitting Galactic Legends, Lord Vader thrives in prolonged battles by stacking offense, reducing enemy Speed, and punishing opponents with constant debuffs. His Ultimate ability allows him to ramp up damage significantly, making him incredibly difficult to outlast. When paired with Maul and other Dark Side tanks, he becomes an overwhelming presence in Grand Arena and Territory Wars.
While he has a slow start compared to other Galactic Legends, his ability to shut down enemy teams through DoTs and Max Health reduction makes him a menace. His defensive strength also allows him to be placed on strong auto-defense teams, forcing opponents to bring their best counters.
Jedi Master Luke Skywalker
As one of the most versatile Galactic Legends, Jedi Master Luke can lead both Jedi and Light Side allies to victory. His Leadership ability grants massive stat boosts, while his Ultimate turns him into a nearly unstoppable damage dealer. Unlike some other Galactic Legends, he doesn’t rely as much on a single team composition, allowing him to flex into various squads effectively.
His ability to reduce enemy Speed, boost allies’ Mastery, and apply Jedi buffs makes him invaluable in nearly every game mode. Whether in PvP or PvE, he remains one of the most reliable investments for any SWGOH player.
A Tier – Strong but Needs Support
A-tier characters are excellent choices, but they may require the right team composition, upgrades, or strategy to truly shine. They’re not quite as dominant as S-tier units, but they can still be incredibly effective in the right hands.
Starkiller
Bringing together characters from across different eras, Starkiller is a unique powerhouse with massive burst damage and synergy with Unaligned Force Users. His kit rewards a balanced Light and Dark Side team, and once he gains his Unleashed status, he can devastate entire squads. While he’s not a Galactic Legend, his Omicron ability makes him a game-changer in Grand Arena.
His biggest downside is that he requires very specific allies to unlock his full potential, making team-building more restrictive. However, in the right setup, he can challenge some of the best teams in the game.
Darth Malgus
A terror in Grand Arena with his Omicron ability, Darth Malgus enhances Sith Empire teams by making them bulkier, faster, and more punishing to deal with. His Leadership grants massive survivability, allowing his team to withstand prolonged fights while wearing down enemies with debuffs.
His biggest strength is his ability to counter Jedi-based teams, making him a major defensive threat in Grand Arena. While he isn’t as versatile as some top-tier characters, his sheer presence in the Sith Empire lineup makes him a must-have for competitive players.
Dash Rendar
A critical piece of the prepared scoundrel lineup, Dash Rendar brings deadly offensive potential, especially in Territory Wars and Grand Arena. His Omicron ability allows his team to gain an overwhelming Turn Meter advantage, making them hard to stop once they get rolling.
Though he’s powerful in certain setups, he lacks the flexibility of higher-tier characters. His full potential is only realized with a well-developed scoundrel squad, which can be a heavy investment.
Cere Junda
A strong addition to the Jedi lineup, she brings defensive durability and Turn Meter control to Light Side teams. Her abilities allow her to keep allies alive longer while disrupting enemy setups, making her an excellent choice for countering certain squads.
Her biggest limitation is that she relies on the right team to shine. Without strong allies like Cal Kestis or Jedi tanks, she struggles to make a significant impact compared to other top-tier Jedi.
B Tier – Decent but Replaceable
B-tier characters are solid but not essential. They can hold their own in battle, but they lack the raw power or synergy to compete with the best. While they’re useful in certain situations, you’ll likely replace them with stronger units as you progress.
Finn
Once a dominant force with his original kit, Finn has fallen into a more supportive role. His Leadership ability provides Turn Meter and healing for Resistance allies, but he lacks the damage or control to compete with top-tier characters. He’s still useful in certain PvE modes, but in competitive play, better Resistance leaders like Rey or JTR overshadow him.
Mother Talzin
A key leader for Nightsister teams, Mother Talzin excels in specific PvE content thanks to her Plague mechanic. Her ability to revive fallen Nightsisters makes her a frustrating opponent in certain game modes, but against high-end teams, she struggles due to her squad’s reliance on revives.
While still effective in mid-tier battles, Nightsisters have fallen behind in the meta, making her less of a priority for investment.
L3-37
A solid defensive tank, L3-37 brings excellent self-healing and durability to scoundrel teams. She works well in a Dash Rendar squad and provides a decent frontline against weaker attackers. However, outside of scoundrel or droid setups, she doesn’t have much impact in the current meta.
Krrsantan
As Jabba’s main tank, Krrsantan is incredibly durable, capable of soaking up massive damage while keeping his team alive. His synergy with Hutt Cartel allies makes him essential for Jabba-based teams, but outside of that specific role, he struggles to find a place in other lineups.
C Tier – The Weakest Choices
C-tier characters are among the weakest in the game. They typically have outdated kits, poor synergy, or low viability in competitive play. Unless you have no other options, investing resources in these units is usually not worth it.
Rose Tico
One of the least useful Resistance characters, Rose Tico suffers from a lack of synergy, weak damage output, and an overall underwhelming kit. While she has some utility in niche situations, she’s outclassed by almost every other Resistance option.
Plo Koon
Despite having a useful ship in Fleet Battles, Plo Koon’s ground combat performance is lackluster. His abilities don’t contribute much to Jedi teams, and he lacks the damage or utility to justify investment. His best use is as a reinforcement for fleets, but in standard battles, he’s easily replaced.
Nute Gunray
Once a decent plug-and-play leader, Nute Gunray has lost relevance due to power creep. His Extortion mechanic can be annoying in lower-level fights, but against high-end teams, it’s easily countered. Separatist squads have much stronger options, leaving him as a last-resort filler unit.
Rebel Officer Leia Organa
A character tied to the Hoth Territory Battle, she doesn’t hold much value outside of that specific event. Her abilities don’t provide enough damage or utility to justify a spot in competitive teams, and stronger Rebel leaders like Mon Mothma or CLS easily outperform her.
While this tier list ranks the best and worst characters in SWGOH, understanding the reasoning behind these rankings is just as important. Sticking to top-tier units will give you an advantage, but knowing why they’re strong will help you adapt as the meta changes.
