The Battle Cats is packed with a wide variety of feline warriors, each with unique abilities and strengths. However, not all cats are created equal in this strategy game. As you progress through the game’s stages and unlock more cats, understanding which ones are truly worth investing in can make a huge difference in your success. That’s where a well-organized tier list comes in.

In this guide, we’ll help you navigate the vast selection of cats available by breaking them down into different tiers. This way, you’ll know exactly which cats to focus on for building a powerful team. We’ll also explain why certain cats rank higher than others, giving you the knowledge to make informed choices as the game evolves.

The Best Battle Cats Tier List

When creating a tier list, it’s important to understand that some cats will always outperform others due to their abilities, stats, and utility in various stages. Below, we’ve organized the cats into different tiers, with the S tier being the best of the best, and the C tier representing those cats that don’t offer much value compared to the rest.

While the tier list gives you a quick reference for the best cats, understanding why these cats earned their rankings is crucial for long-term success. A cat’s utility can vary depending on the stage, enemy types, or even the composition of your team. Knowing what makes a cat strong in specific situations will help you adapt to updates and new cats as the game grows, and is one of the most important things to do as a beginner in The Battle Cats.

The Best Battle Cats Tier List - Guide to the Strongest Cats in the Game

Now, let’s break down each tier to give you a better sense of how the rankings work and why certain cats stand out.

S Tier Battle Cats

The S tier cats are simply unmatched in terms of power, utility, and overall effectiveness. These cats excel in almost every situation, making them invaluable throughout the game. Whether you’re dealing with early-game levels or end-game content, these cats will always perform at the highest level and should be prioritized for leveling and upgrades.

Kasli the Bane

The Best Battle Cats Tier List - Guide to the Strongest Cats in the Game

This cat is an absolute powerhouse in The Battle Cats. With her immense health, high attack power, and the ability to launch devastating surge attacks, she shines as a sniper and backliner. Her ability to Curse enemies for 4.5 seconds while being immune to a variety of status effects, including Waves, Surges, and Warp, makes her nearly unstoppable in battle. Kasli’s strong uptime and knockback abilities allow her to stay alive for extended periods, making her highly effective against midrangers and backliners. Although her blindspot can be a weakness against certain close-range enemies, this flaw is easy to manage with a well-balanced team. Overall, her versatility and strength make her one of the best units in the game, excelling in nearly every situation.

D’arktanyan

The Best Battle Cats Tier List - Guide to the Strongest Cats in the Game

D’arktanyan is another standout in the S tier, known for his exceptional damage output, especially against Traitless enemies. His Long Distance ability allows him to hit enemies from beyond his short standing range, and when strengthened at 60% health, his already impressive damage skyrockets. With immunity to Waves and Warp, he’s incredibly useful in stages with wave-heavy enemies, providing both speed and high damage. However, his effectiveness relies on being protected from enemies that outrange him, and he’s best deployed in stages where he can fully take advantage of his long-distance strikes. Despite his niche against Traitless enemies, his general DPS makes him a valuable asset in a variety of battles.

Miko Mitama

The Best Battle Cats Tier List - Guide to the Strongest Cats in the Game

Mitama the Oracle offers unmatched crowd control, thanks to her resistance and slow effect on traited enemies. She also boasts multiple immunities, making her highly resilient in long, drawn-out battles. Mitama excels as a midrange attacker and crowd-controller, and her 15 knockbacks keep her alive for extended periods, even in difficult stages. However, her relatively short standing range can limit her effectiveness in certain situations, and she is vulnerable to specific enemy types like Surge and Long Distance attackers. Despite these weaknesses, her strong uptime and ability to neutralize threats in most stages cement her place in the S tier.

Nerd Cat

The Best Battle Cats Tier List - Guide to the Strongest Cats in the Game

Nerd Cat, in his True Form as Cyberpunk Cat, is a strong long-distance support unit, capable of slowing non-Metal enemies with a 100% chance. His enormous range allows him to stay far from danger while chipping away at enemies and controlling the battlefield. However, he suffers from low health, a long cooldown, and a significant blind spot, making him vulnerable if enemies break through your front lines. Cyberpunk Cat’s value lies in stacking multiple copies to maximize his slow uptime, but his overall low damage output and situational utility prevent him from being as versatile as some other S-tier cats. Despite these drawbacks, his ability to slow powerful enemies from afar makes him a crucial unit in many challenging stages, and it’s for this reason alone that he’s earned this spot on our tier list; his presence can singlehandedly turn challenging stages into a breeze.

A Tier Battle Cats

The A tier cats are very powerful in their own right and are excellent choices for most stages. While they may not quite match the raw effectiveness of S tier cats, they can still carry you far into the game. These cats often have specific abilities that make them incredibly useful in certain situations, even if they aren’t the absolute best across the board.

Mer-Cat

The Best Battle Cats Tier List - Guide to the Strongest Cats in the Game

In her base form, Mer-Cat is a melee attacker specialized against Floating enemies. She deals decent damage and has a 50% chance to survive a lethal strike, making her useful in the early stages of the game. However, her single-target attack and low range limit her overall effectiveness, especially in levels with many enemies. As she evolves into Commando Cat, her stats increase slightly, but it’s in her True Form, Cameraman Cat, where she truly shines. Cameraman Cat gains area attack, better range, and significantly increased health, making her one of the best units for handling Floating enemies like Teacher Bun Bun or Brollow. With proper meatshielding, Cameraman Cat becomes an essential midrange attacker, capable of stacking up and delivering consistent DPS, especially in stages like Head Shaker or Lots O’ Lion. Her talents further boost her abilities, with options for critical hits and wave resistance, allowing her to take on even more challenging stages.

Bahamut Cat

The Best Battle Cats Tier List - Guide to the Strongest Cats in the Game

Bahamut Cat is a backline nuker in his base form, with incredible range and devastating damage. His long attack animation and slow movement speed can make him tricky to use, but when timed correctly, he can easily wipe out crowds of enemies or deal heavy damage to bosses. However, his long cooldown and low health mean you must protect him well to keep him alive. Once evolved into Crazed Bahamut Cat, his attack power increases, and he becomes a more reliable unit for mid-game stages. However, his True Form, Awakened Bahamut Cat, is where he transforms into a true game-changer. With faster attack speed, greatly improved movement speed, and a multi-hit ability, Awakened Bahamut is a Rusher-class unit capable of dealing massive damage in a short amount of time. He excels in Timed Score stages and can decimate enemies with lower range or slow attack rates. However, his short range and low health mean he’ll often die quickly if not protected, but his sheer offensive power makes him a top-tier choice for stages that require a strong burst of damage.

Figure Skating Cats

The Best Battle Cats Tier List - Guide to the Strongest Cats in the Game

In their base form, Figure Skating Cats serve as decent midrange attackers with above-average health and DPS. While they are not as spammable as cheaper units, they can hold their own in the early and mid-game, especially when used in stacks to accumulate damage. As they evolve into Drama Cats, they gain better stats, but it’s in their True Form, Slapstick Cats, where they become highly valuable. Slapstick Cats are particularly strong against Relic enemies, gaining the ability to resist Relics and immunity to Curse, making them one of the best non-Uber counters to Relic-heavy stages. Their improved health and attack power in True Form allow them to act as reliable midrange attackers, while their decent recharge time and ability to resist Curse make them essential in Uncanny Legends and stages with Relic enemies. Talents such as the Weaken ability further increase their survivability, making Slapstick Cats a versatile and reliable choice in tougher stages.

Hip Hop Cat

The Best Battle Cats Tier List - Guide to the Strongest Cats in the Game

Hip Hop Cat offers solid single-target damage and fast attack rate in his base form, making him useful in the early stages against enemies with low range. His short range and long foreswing can be a downside, but he remains effective against short-ranged enemies due to his decent health and knockback ability. Once evolved into Dancing Flasher Cat, his performance remains largely the same but gains slightly better stats. It’s in his True Form as Can Can Cat where he becomes one of the strongest cost-effective melee attackers in the game. Can Can Cat delivers immense damage for a low cost, and his 60% chance to slow Red enemies is a bonus. His true strength lies in his talents, especially Extra Money, which makes him a top-tier unit for farming income during stages. Although he struggles against large groups due to his single-target attack, his high health and damage output make him a go-to choice for dealing with tough, short-ranged enemies like Bore or Sunfish Jones.

B Tier Battle Cats

The B tier cats are average and dependable, but they are outclassed by higher-tier options. These cats can still take you far, especially in early to mid-game stages, but as you progress, you may find them less effective compared to their higher-ranked counterparts. They’re solid picks, but you’ll likely replace them as you unlock stronger cats.

Salon Cat

The Best Battle Cats Tier List - Guide to the Strongest Cats in the Game

In her base form, Salon Cat offers a good balance of range and DPS for a Rare Cat. She acts as an early-game midranger, and while her low health makes her vulnerable to faster enemies, her area attack and short cooldown allow her to be spammed effectively when paired with meatshields. This makes her a solid choice for chipping away at groups of enemies. However, in her base form, she can struggle against enemies with higher range or faster attack rates. Once evolved into Paris Cat and eventually Cyborg Cat in True Form, she gains better stats, including Weaken Immunity, making her more effective in a wider range of battles. Though her health remains low even in later stages, her high DPS and spammability make her a reliable midrange attacker for most of the game.

Ninja Cat

The Best Battle Cats Tier List - Guide to the Strongest Cats in the Game

Ninja Cat in her base form is a solid early-game unit, with better stats than Axe Cat and a low cost, making her an excellent addition to any beginner lineup. She excels at quickly clearing peons in the first few chapters of Empire of Cats, and her fast attack rate and short recharge time make her easy to stack for consistent damage output. However, as you progress further into the game, Ninja Cat’s base stats become less effective, especially with her low health and single-target attack. Her Evolved Form, Ninja Frog Cat, retains much of the same usefulness but begins to feel outclassed as stronger enemies appear. Her True Form, Flying Ninja Cat, adds some slight improvements in terms of cost and movement speed, but even then, she’s mostly outclassed by other anti-Red units. However, Ninja Cat remains a valuable part of the Cool Japan Cat Combo, which boosts the attack power of all your units, giving her some lasting utility.

Titan Cat

The Best Battle Cats Tier List - Guide to the Strongest Cats in the Game

In his base form, Titan Cat is an early powerhouse unit. With high health, attack power, and area damage, Titan Cat is a reliable tank and damage dealer for the early chapters of the game. His slow movement speed and long cooldown can be limiting, but his ability to clear groups of enemies with area attacks makes him crucial for dealing with tough early-game threats. However, as the game progresses, Titan Cat’s shortcomings, such as his short range and slow attack speed, become more apparent, making him less reliable against faster and ranged enemies. Once evolved into Mythical Titan Cat and eventually Jamiera Cat in True Form, Titan Cat gains increased health and attack power, along with a 30% chance to knockback non-Metal enemies. While his True Form remains useful in certain situations, especially against enemies with long-distance attacks, Titan Cat’s overall effectiveness diminishes in the late game, as more specialized units take the spotlight.

Tank Cat

The Best Battle Cats Tier List - Guide to the Strongest Cats in the Game

Tank Cat in his base form is one of the first units you’ll unlock, and his primary purpose is to act as a meatshield. He has high health for a basic unit and can be spammed due to his short cooldown and low cost, making him a valuable frontline defender throughout the early and mid-game. In his Evolved Form, Wall Cat, he gains even more health and becomes even more efficient at stalling enemy units, allowing your damage-dealers to stay safe. However, his damage output is extremely low, and his slow movement speed can be a disadvantage in some situations. Eraser Cat, his True Form, gains a substantial health boost, making him a much better tank for end-game content. Though he remains a basic defensive unit with no offensive capabilities, his importance as a meatshield never fades, and he remains a staple in most lineups well into the late game.

C Tier Battle Cats

C tier cats are the weakest of the bunch, and in this case, we’ve listed only Uber Rare cats to show that even the highest rarity doesn’t guarantee effectiveness. These cats may have flashy abilities, but they often lack the power, utility, or versatility to compete with better options. While they can still be useful in certain stages, investing resources into obtaining these cats is usually not worth it. This section serves as a reminder that just because a cat is Uber Rare doesn’t mean it’s automatically strong—sometimes, even the rarest cats fall short in comparison to lower-tier alternatives. It’s best to avoid relying on these unless you have no other options.

Mighty Bomburr

The Best Battle Cats Tier List - Guide to the Strongest Cats in the Game

Mighty Bomburr may seem impressive at first with his high health, decent DPS, and numerous knockbacks, especially when facing Zombies. However, his long recharge time, high cost, and slow movement make him cumbersome in many situations. While his knockback ability and Zombie Killer traits are useful, these alone don’t justify his limitations as a generalist. Bomburr’s True Form provides additional survivability with increased knockbacks, but this also means he gets knocked back too often, lowering his overall performance. While he can be helpful in some Zombie-centric stages, there are many other anti-Zombie units that are much more efficient. Bomburr’s potential is wasted due to his sluggish nature and long cooldown, which significantly hinder his usefulness, making him one of the weaker Ubers despite his promising traits.

Kaguya of the Coast

The Best Battle Cats Tier List - Guide to the Strongest Cats in the Game

In her base form, Kaguya of the Coast seems like a solid unit, offering a 20% chance to slow Black and Alien enemies with a fast attack rate. However, her low range and frail health make her highly vulnerable, and she often gets knocked back before being able to deal substantial damage. Her Evolved Form increases her slow chance to 100% and adds Aku targeting, which sounds great on paper but falls short due to her slow movement and attack speed, making her less effective in high-pressure stages. In her True Form, she gains the ability to pierce Aku Shields, but her low health and long attack cycle make her unreliable. The Southern Sunflare’s shield-piercing is only effective if she lands the attack, which doesn’t happen consistently enough to make her dependable. Overall, while Kaguya has potential with her crowd control abilities, her weaknesses far outweigh her strengths, relegating her to the lower tiers.

Gravi

The Best Battle Cats Tier List - Guide to the Strongest Cats in the Game

Gravi offers a promising kit with his wave attacks and Barrier Breaker abilities, which can be useful against certain enemies like Aliens. However, his very short range and slow movement speed severely limit his overall effectiveness. Even though Gravi can generate consistent wave damage and his True Form increases his Wave Attack level, he struggles to survive long enough in tougher stages to take full advantage of these abilities. His resistance to Alien enemies is useful, but his low range means he often gets overwhelmed by more powerful Alien units. In a meta filled with powerful long-range attackers and versatile Ubers, Gravi simply doesn’t hold up well as a generalist or even a niche anti-Alien unit, making him one of the less desirable Uber Rares to invest in.

JUPITER KING

The Best Battle Cats Tier List - Guide to the Strongest Cats in the Game

In his base form, JUPITER KING suffers from a slow movement speed and attack rate, making him difficult to use effectively, especially in stages with fast-moving enemies. Although he has decent range and the ability to knockback and slow Alien enemies, his low proc chances and poor survivability make him unreliable as a crowd controller. He gains a surge attack and Barrier Breaker in his True Form, GOLDEN JUPITER CC, which vastly improves his performance, but at a high cost that might not be suited for most players initially. The surge doubles his DPS, but his overall performance is still hindered by his low attack rate and high cost. In his True Form, this unit is much more usable, but it’ll be a while before you reach this point. And despite his flashy abilities, JUPITER KING is simply difficult to use without any significant investment, at least in most situations and compared to other units.

As you can see, while some Uber Rare cats in The Battle Cats, like those in the S and A tiers, can dominate the battlefield with their exceptional abilities and utility, others in the C tier may fall short of expectations despite their rarity. Knowing which cats to invest in is crucial for making the most of your resources and progressing smoothly through the game’s many challenges. Always remember, even the strongest units need to be used strategically for the best results.
