Granny: Guide to Single-Use Items and Their Locations
Surviving the wrath of Granny in the eponymous game by DVloper requires nerves of steel and laser focus. As you move from one room to another to find a place to hide before grandma sees you, you might forget all about your primary goal – to escape.
However, making it out the door requires you to piece together tens of items scattered throughout the house. And – oh, yes – you can only hold and handle one item at a time. As such, to escape while expending all of your focus on Granny, you have to know exactly where you’re going and why, every step of the way.
In two previous guides, we looked at the location and uses of keys, but also at where you can find weapons and crucial items that you use more than once each session. Below are the rest of the objects inside Granny’s home, together with their possible spawn locations. You use these items only once per game and for very specific purposes.
The Winch Handle. You need this item to draw the bucket from inside the well in the Backyard. Possible locations for it include:
- The secret Sewer Cell (Crossbow needed).
- The safe in the Basement (Safe Key needed).
- The Hidden Closet on the First Floor.
- A cupboard in the Kitchen.
- A wardrobe in the Study.
The Padlock Code. The code opens the Number Padlock on the Main Door and can be found at these spots:
- A cupboard in the Kitchen.
- A wall in the Meat Room.
- A drawer in the Study.
- The closet under the stairs in the Main Hallway (Remote Control needed).
- A wall in the Sewers.
The Battery. You use this item to open a special lock on the Main Door. You can find it in:
- The Hidden Closet on the First Floor.
- The closet under the stairs in the Main Hallway (Remote Control needed).
- One of the cupboards in the Kitchen.
- The chimney in the Crow Room.
- The Hidden Area on the First Floor.
The Remote Control. This acts like a key to open the closet under the stairs in the Main Hallway. It’s located in one of the following:
- The Meat Room.
- The Hidden Room in the Basement.
- In a cupboard in the Crow Room.
- In the crow’s cage in the Crow Room (Bird Seed needed).
- In the Bookshelf Room.
The Cogwheels. Two Cogwheels are required to open the Cogwheel Safe inside the Playhouse (Playhouse Key needed) in the Backyard. Find the Red Cogwheel at these locations:
- Behind the Jail ventilator on the Second Floor (Cutting Pliers needed).
- Inside a drawer in the second Bedroom.
- Inside the well bucket in the Backyard (Winch Handle needed).
- On a shelf inside the Shed in the Backyard.
- Inside a drawer in the Baby Room on the Second Floor (Hammer needed).
The Orange Cogwheel has spawn locations of its own:
- Behind the Jail ventilator on the Second Floor (Cutting Pliers needed).
- Inside the microwave in the Kitchen.
- Inside the Shed in the Backyard.
- Inside a wardrobe in the Dining Room.
- Inside a sink in the Bathroom.
The Wrench. If you intend to escape by car, you need the Wrench to properly install the Car Engine part. Keep an eye out for these spots:
- The locker in the Spider Room on the Second Floor (Special Key and Meat/Crossbow/Shotgun needed).
- Inside the microwave in the Kitchen.
- On the TV table.
- Inside drawers in the second Bedroom.
- Behind the Jail ventilator on the Second floor (Cutting Pliers needed).
The Car Engine. One of the main items required for an escape via the car (must be screwed in using the Wrench). The Engine part can be found in:
- On a shelf in the Jail Room (Hammer needed).
- Inside the safe in the basement (Safe Key needed).
- Inside the well bucket in the Backyard (Winch Handle needed).
- On the TV table.
- Underneath drawers in the second Bedroom.
The Spark Plug. The second item required for the car escape. Can be located in:
- The Spider Room on the Second Floor (Special Key and Meat needed).
- The Melon (must be cut at the Guillotine in the Backyard).
- The Playhouse (Playhouse Key and two Cogwheels needed).
- A drawer in the Study.
- A drawer in the Hidden Area on the First Floor.
The Car Battery. The third item that must be placed inside the car for one possible escape route. Usually spawns at these locations:
- The closet underneath the stairs in the Main Hallway (Remote Control needed).
- The Sewer Cell (Crossbow or Shotgun needed).
- The Safe in the Basement (Safe Key needed).
- The Hidden Closet on the First Floor.
- A drawer in the first Bedroom.
The Meat. This chunk of delicious-looking raw meat is required to distract Granny’s playful Spider in the Spider Room on the Second Floor (Special Key needed to access the room). Unlike the Bird Seed, however, you can only use the Meat once for a 10 seconds diversion. If you don’t get what you need from the room in that amount of time, you have to kill the spider with a Crossbow or Shotgun instead. You can find the Meat at these unusual locations:
- On a table in the Sewer Cell (Crossbow or Shotgun needed).
- In the Baby Room on the Second Floor (Hammer needed).
- Inside the closet in the Crow Room (Hammer needed).
- Inside a cupboard in the Kitchen.
- Inside the locker in the Kitchen.
The Bird Seed. Food that can distract the crow in the Crow Room, giving you enough time to obtain the item from the cage. The crow does not kill you, unlike the spider, and the Bird Seed can be used indefinitely. Find the item in one of the following spots:
- The closet in the Crow Room (Hammer needed).
- The car trunk in the Garage (Car Key needed).
- The locker in the Spider Room on the Second Floor (Special Key and Meat or Crossbow/Shotgun needed).
- A table inside the Shed in the Backyard.
- The locker in the Kitchen.
The Melon. Finally, the melon is slightly different from the other items presented here in the sense that, even though it technically has only one use – to get sliced in the guillotine, it can reward the player with one of several items, including the Playhouse Key, the Padlock Key, the Master Key, and the Spark Plug. This is where you can find the Melon:
- On a workbench inside the Shed in the Backyard.
- Inside the well bucket in the Backyard.
- On the floor in the Sewer Cell (Crossbow or Shotgun needed).
- Inside the fridge in the Kitchen.
- Inside the car trunk in the Garage (Car Key needed).
All of these items/uses/locations are a lot to take in and obviously too much to memorize in order to beat the game. Whenever you have a hard time finding one of the latter, however, you can pause the game, pop open this list, and figure out which rooms/drawers/tables you haven’t checked yet. Because spawn locations are always variable, our advice is to memorize rooms and routes rather than specific items. You’ll likely have to search all over the house to find your way out anyway, so it’s a good idea to methodically check every known spot per floor and plan your escape from there.
