The Best Kingdom of Pirates Tips and Tricks for Beginners
Kingdom of Pirates is a strategy conquest game that puts you in the shoes of a budding privateer, also known as the infamous “pirates” that roamed the seas in the fifteenth century in search of booty, plunder, fame, and fortune. The game features a story-heavy design where the player can choose their protagonist and starting point, all of which revolve around famous pirates that once existed in our world. Depending on your choice, you will embark on an epic journey to build your pirate empire, recruiting a variety of fierce captains in the process, while also growing your army of bloodthirsty pirates and crewmen.
Aside from its story, however, Kingdom of Pirates is actually a pretty standard conquest game with some idle and gacha elements, though its main gameplay consists of developing your town, expanding your fleet, constructing outposts, and hiring new troops. This is pretty much expected of the genre, and if you’re already a vet in these games, then you won’t have any issues at all adjusting to Kingdom of Pirates. However, given the fact that the in-game tutorial is a bit lackluster, the newer players might have some difficulties adjusting, which is exactly where this beginner’s guide comes in.
In the next few paragraphs, you’ll find a few useful tips and tricks for beginners in Kingdom of Pirates. Keep these in mind if you’re just starting your pirating career in this game:
Choose Your Storyline Carefully
Before you do anything in this game, you’ll have to choose from a number of different starting points. And while these don’t actually have any bearing on the gameplay itself, it will heavily influence the storyline. It also affects the appearance of your base, your position in the world map and, of course, the events that transpire throughout the main campaign. This is great because, if you only want the PvP, it doesn’t really matter which storyline you choose. However, if you’re also in it for the PvE, this choice lets you choose the starting point that you prefer, potentially increasing your enjoyment of the game.
In this sense, we strongly suggest that you carefully consider your storyline before starting, especially since changing it later on is prohibitively expensive, requiring you to pay 1,000 diamonds and have a bounty of at least 60-million doubloons, which is quite far into the game.
Work Through the Main Story to Find Your Bearings
Now that you’ve chosen a starting point for the story, it’s time to start playing. However, this is where matters get a bit complicated because, while the general objective in Kingdom of Pirates is the same as other similar conquest games, this title doesn’t quite explain its mechanics very well. In this sense, your sole point of guidance in the beginning is the main campaign, which will take you out into the world and somewhat guide you through the basic mechanics like building outposts, hiring sailors, upgrading your ship, and the maiden courtship system.
For this reason, the very first thing you should do as soon as you start is follow the main quests as far as you can. Eventually, you’ll come into a wall where you’ll have to wait to complete an objective or two, though you’ll probably learn most of the basics in the process.
Keep Your Pirates Upgraded and Sailors Replenished To Maximize Plunder Rates
And speaking of walls to your progress, one of the main factors that will prevent you from developing your towns and fleet as fast as you can is the money. In a nutshell, doubloons are one of the main currencies in Kingdom of Pirates, and are used mostly for upgrading your own captains, which in turn will increase their stats and effectiveness in combat. This is important since having upgraded pirates is the key to victory, especially during the game’s combat stages, and it also enhances that unit’s effectiveness in virtually every task.
Meanwhile, silver is a more common currency in the game, which is also almost as important as doubloons, but for different reasons. While doubloons are used for upgrading pirates, silver is used for virtually every other important task; from constructing outposts to hiring sailors, you’ll always need a constant supply of silver to fund your privateering operations.
While leveling up your captains with doubloons will increase their overall effectiveness, keeping your outposts with the maximum number of sailors by investing silver will also increase your plunder rate, helping you to generate more silver over time.
Assign Your Captains to Their Posts
Even with your captains upgraded to their maximum levels, their effectiveness is mostly wasted if they’re not assigned to your outposts. This is because, while your outposts generate a set amount of silver per second, which is increased by the number of sailors stationed within, you can also assign a captain to these facilities, which in turn will boost silver production by a set percentage.
It’s worth mentioning here that some pirates boost silver production more than others, so there are some aspects to consider when choosing which units to assign to your outposts. Nevertheless, you really don’t have to worry about this in the beginning, as you likely won’t have too many pirates to choose from. In this case, simply assign all your units to outposts so you can maximize silver production, and then swap them as you recruit better captains.
Tend to Your Maidens Regularly
Last but not least, and what could be one of the more controversial aspects of Kingdom of Pirates, is the maiden system in which you can court a variety of characters, which in turn will help to increase the power of your protagonist. This system lets you interact with your maidens, chat with them, give them gifts, take them out on dates, and increase your intimacy level with them. And every time you progress in your relationship with a maiden, your main character will receive a boost to their stats.
While this aspect is a bit gratuitous, it’s a good way to give your captain a good strength boost. For this reason, make sure to regularly check up on your maidens and exhaust their date allowances. Also, whenever you find gifts during your travels, make sure to give them to your maidens, as these are completely ineffectual if they’re just sitting in your inventory gathering dust.
There’s more to the maiden system than what we’ve explained here. However, the main idea of this is to let you know that you should always visit your maidens whenever you get the chance, just to get that small push in power that might come in handy down the line.
