Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds, the newest game in the Ni no Kuni video game series by Level 5 is released globally by Netmarble as a free-to-play title by Google Play Store and iOS App Store. Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds is an open world MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) where players can tread on the virtual fantasy land of Soul Divers, which is an online game in which our main protagonist takes part as a beta tester. The game follows the concept of “Isekai” which is a Japanese term meaning “Another World” and is popularly followed in different manga/anime IPs.
Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds is a new age game that aims to bring the top of the class graphics and animation to your mobile devices with the use of Unreal Engine 4 and the superb and vivid high-quality animations provided by Studio Ghibli. The vocals and music direction is provided by the renowned Japanese musician Joe Hisaishi. Players can roam the vast lands of the fantasy land of Soul Divers by choosing their desired class from a range of 5 different classes available, each with its own unique playstyle, abilities, and passive skills. They are as follows:
- Rogue Class (Bow User, Ranged Character)
- Witch Class (Spear User, Ranged Character)
- Destroyer Class (Hammer User, Melee Character)
- Swordsman Class (Sword User, Melee Character)
- Engineer Class (Rifle User, Ranged Character)
Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds is also a gacha game where players have to summon different kinds of materials, each important in their own right. Broadly, the gacha system covers 3 main aspects:
- Equipment’s
- Familiars
- Costumes and Accessories
The gacha system can be quite predatory and tricky as is the case with such games due to the RNG (Random Number Generator) dependency to get the best results. The highest quality of equipment, familiar, and costumes are available at the lowest rates while the lowest grade of equipment, familiars, and costumes are available at the highest rates. The game does have a pity system in-built to come to the player’s rescue in case they were not able to get the highest quality of equipment and familiars within 100 and 200 summons. There are 2 types of pities in the gacha system:
- Soft Pity
- Hard Pity
The Soft pity includes the baseline 4-Star equipment or familiar and players can hit soft pity by not getting any 4-Star equipment or familiar within 100 summons. A Hard pity exists of the same when players do not get rare 4-Star equipment or familiar within 200 summons. Keep in mind that both of these pities remain different for both equipment and familiar, and so does the gacha system.
In this article, we will be giving players an overview of what equipments are in Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds and what role they play in making you stronger in Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds. To do this, we will be keeping it beginner friendly and covering the following topics:
- What is Equipment?
- How to Obtain Equipment?
- Different Ways to Enhance your Equipment
What is Equipment in Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds?
Like many standard RPG games, Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds also follows an equipment system where the main aim is to collect the best of the best equipment and equip it on your character to make them stronger. In Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds, equipment directly increases your CP (Combat Power) and the higher the quality of equipment, the more this increased amount will be.
Equipment in Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds come in different shapes, sizes, and elements as well. Just like Familiars, the best weapons from each different element will give the best result when equipped to the user. The 5 different elements under which all the equipment is classified are as follows:
- Fire Element (Strong to Earth element but weaker to Water element)
- Water Element (Strong to Fire element but weaker to Earth element)
- Earth Element (Strong to Water element but weaker to Fire element)
- Light Element (Stronger and Weaker both, to Dark element)
- Dark Element (Stronger and Weaker both, to Light element)
All characters will have 10 different slots for your equipment to be equipped on and they are as follows:
- 3 Weapon slots (Weapons are dependent on Class)
- 4 Body Equipment slots (Headgear, Armor, Gloves, and Boots which are not dependent on Class)
- 3 Accessory slots (Necklace, Earrings, and Rings which are not dependent on Class)
Equipment comes in different rarities with each rarity improving the base stats several times. The different equipment rarities are as follows:
- 1-Star Equipment
- 2-Star Equipment
- 3-Star Equipment
- 4-Star Equipment
- Rare 4-Star Equipment
It’s highly recommended for early game players, which might have low tier equipment of 1-2 Star to not use all of their resources in enhancing the weak equipment as the equipment enhancing resources are not extremely abundant and are rare. Players will eventually outlive their current equipment requirements and will need stronger equipment of 3-4 Stars to progress further in the game. Now comes the question, where can we get strong equipment from? Refer to the next section of this equipment guide for Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds.
How to Get Equipment in Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds?
As we mentioned beforehand, Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds is a gacha game that offers different types of equipment, familiars, costumes, and accessories through the gacha system. To obtain equipment, gacha system is a great but RNG-dependent way to obtain high-quality equipment only if they get lucky. The rates for the equipment gacha are as follows:
- 4-Star equipment – 4% Rates to obtain from the gacha
- 3-Star equipment – 36% Rates to obtain from the gacha
- 2-Star equipment – 60% Rates to obtain from the gacha
Relying on the gacha can be quite expensive if your luck decides to sleep on you, hence, Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds also has another method called Crafting which is a free-to-play friendly method of obtaining different quality of equipment. Players can craft equipment for each slot using the different materials obtained when players disassemble a piece of equipment that they feel is useless. Players can also get this crafting resource from different main quests, daily quests, side quests, event rewards, as well as killing different enemies. Players can craft the following slots of equipment:
- Weapon
- Armor
- Headgear
- Gloves
- Boots
- Ring
- Necklace
- Earrings
Well, there is a catch associated with this method as well. First of all, the crafted weapons can be quite abundant which is a good thing but they are all randomized. This means, they can be of different quality, rarity, slot, and element (if weapon). This is in itself a gacha system of its own and even has a hard pity which exists for all slots of equipment and exists at 100 craftings. This pity is counted individually depending on the type of equipment from the list mentioned above.
Ways to Enhance your Equipment and Increase CP
Primarily, there exist 4 different methods in Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds to enhance your equipment which will directly increase your Combat Power (CP). The methods are as follows:
- Level-Up
- Boosting
- Enhance
- Awakening
Leveling Up: Just like you can level up your character or player rank, players can also level up their collected equipment using the leveling materials. Keep in mind that players can only level up base-level equipment from Level 1 to Level 30. Leveling resources come in different types where some are exclusive to only certain types of equipment like armor, weapons, and accessories and these materials can only be used to level their type of equipment. Some leveling resources also exist which are general and can be used to level up any equipment. There also exist different elemental leveling resources, exclusively for weapons, and players will get an enhanced experience bonus when they use a similar elemental leveling resource to level up a similar element weapon. This system is quite relatable to the familiar enhancing system.
Boosting: Boosting is a great system to further increase the strength of your equipment and directly increase the CP. Players do so by simply increasing the base star level of the equipment. For example, players can boost a 3-Star Level 30 equipment to 4-Stars which will reset the level of the equipment back to Level 1 but the base stats of the equipment will increase. Similarly, players can boost the equipment from 4-Star to 5-Star and the cycle continues till the equipment reached 6-Star Level 30. Do remember that equipment can only be boosted once they reach Level 30 of their current Star level.
Enhance: Enhancing is another great system to boost the base stats of your equipment. Players do this by simply using Enhancement stones which are available through different methods like daily quests, event rewards, side quests, main quests, etc. Armor and Accessories use the same type of enhancement stones while weapons use a specialized elemental-based enhancement stone. Players use these enhancement stones to increase the base stats of the equipment, starting from +1 enhancement and ending on +30 enhancement. For the first few enhancements, the success rate is quite high, even to 100% but as the equipment gets enhanced further, the success rates go get decreased. A great thing to remember is that the Equipment enhancements can get transferred to similar items but this will destroy the base equipment from which the enhancements are getting transferred.
Awakening: Awakening is another method to increase the strength of your equipment and in turn, directly increase your character’s CP. Awakening uses the duplicate copies of the same type of equipment that you could have gotten from different equipment obtaining methods that we mentioned above. Players can use the duplicate copies of the weapon to strengthen their base weapon and each awakening is denoted by +1. The number of awakenings can go to +10 but the higher the awakening, the lower the success rate and higher the duplicate equipment required.
