Beginner’s Guide for Project Makeover with the Best Tips, Tricks, and Strategies for Solving Puzzles
Match-3 games are some of the most fun that you can have whenever you have a few minutes to spare during your downtime or commutes, and Project Makeover is no exception to this. However, despite their simplicity and straightforward design, these games can also be pretty tough to beat, especially when you progress into the later stages and levels. As such, it’s not uncommon for you to struggle with completing certain stages, especially since every time you fail you also lose a life, and your progress will be completely blocked when you lose all your five lives in one single stage.

Games like Project Makeover can be very fun, but also quite frustrating if you don’t know what you’re doing. For this reason, we wanted to share a few tips and tricks for those who are new at the game, so you can get started on the right track and focus more on completing levels and less on struggling with the mechanics.
Play on BlueStacks to get Infinite Lives
As mentioned above, one of the most frustrating aspects of games like Project Makeover is the energy system. Specifically, players have a limited number of lives, which are lost every time they fail to complete a stage. Conversely, if you complete your stages without failing, you can basically play indefinitely, so it’s always important to put some thought into every move.
Regardless, considering that the layout of every stage is randomized, whether you win or lose is not always completely up to you, as some levels could spawn with exceedingly difficult or even impossible layouts, which only increase the frustration factor, especially when you’re out of lives and can’t continue trying to complete the stage.
For this reason, we strongly recommend playing Project Makeover on PC with BlueStacks, as our Android app player gives you the best visuals and performance, as well as access to a variety of tools and features to enhance your experience with this game. Case in point, the Instance Manager is one of the most important aspects of BlueStacks when playing Project Makeover, as it lets you access this game on multiple accounts at the same time.
By playing on several different accounts, you can effectively throw yourself at the toughest levels without worrying about your lives, since you can simply switch to another instance whenever you run out of energy and continue playing.
With the Instance Manager, you can create as many instances as you want, in order to extend your playing time indefinitely.
Connect Large Chains to Create Special Boosters
Like in other match-3 games, the goal in Project Makeover is to fulfill stage objectives by combining at least three pieces of the same type in order to destroy them. And once you gather the required number of pieces, the stage is considered complete. However, some stages can have very demanding objectives, as well as impose a very restrictive turn limit, giving you limited means to complete them. For this reason, instead of combining tiles in threes, you can create special combos that not only clear more of the board but also create special boosters that can be used for different effects.
Depending on the type of combo you create, you can spawn a variety of special boosters:
- Rockets: Created by combining four tiles in a line. When used, they clear an entire row or column, depending on their orientation.
- Firecrackers: Created by combining four pieces in a square. When used, they destroy all nearby tiles in a cross pattern.
- Bombs: Created by combining five pieces in an L or T pattern. When used, they explode in a 3×3 area.
- Rainbows: Created by combining five tiles in a line. When used, they will destroy all tiles of a specific type. Players can influence which type of tile they target by swapping it with a tile of the desired color.
While these boosters are excellent on their own, they can also be combined with each other, or with other boosters, to amplify their effects. Try to mix and match these boosters to get an edge in completing the tougher stages.
Learn About the Different Obstacles
While most early stages will simply require you to collect a certain number of basic tiles, later levels will ask you to collect or clear other, more complex, tiles. Moreover, some of these stage objectives can also be blocked by special elements that effectively act as obstacles to your progress. In this sense, it’s important to know about these obstacles in order to know how to deal with them.
Some of the most common obstacles in Project Makeover include the following:
- Shirts: Unmovable elements that are often required to beat their respective levels. To remove them, you need to combine tiles next to the shirts.
- Combs: Similar to shirts, but they can be moved and therefore give more flexibility to the player.
- Cameras: They can’t be removed or moved. In order to collect them, you must break the tiles underneath them and make them fall off the bottom of the board.
- Lipsticks: Similar to shirts.
- Belts: These elements effectively block the tiles they’re wrapped around, and can be removed by combining other tiles beside them, just like with shirts and combs.
- Spray Bottles: They build up pressure whenever you combine nearby tiles. Once enough pressure has been built, they will automatically get collected.
It’s Not About Doing Crazy Chains, But About Clearing the Stage Objectives
As fun as it can be to just go crazy on the combos and create massive chain reactions, this tip is here to remind you that, oftentimes, this isn’t the best way to proceed. As such, try to limit yourself to completing the stage objectives with as few moves as possible. Not only is this a way to save time, but beating in stages in fewer moves will net you additional rewards in the end.
Use Tools and Boosters on the Tougher Levels
As you progress through the game, you’ll start unlocking special tools that can be used in-game as lifelines to help you get through the tougher stages. These tools effectively let you destroy any tiles that you want, without even costing you any turns, which somewhat makes them as good as cheats for this game. The tradeoff here is that they’re very rare and difficult to find, so you should only use them when you’re legitimately stumped in difficult stages.
There are three types of tools in Project Makeover:
- Scissors: Removes a single tile from the stage.
- Brushes: Clears an entire column and row, similar to rockets.
- Perfume Bottles: They explode like when you combine two bomb boosters, destroying everything in a 5×5 area.
Tools are difficult to find, and can mostly only be obtained by purchasing them with gems. However, you might be able to snag a few through events or special giveaways, so make sure to keep an eye out for them!
