Rise of Kingdoms - Future and Beyond Roadmap
The future of Rise of Kingdoms, the city-builder tactical RPG by LilithGames has recently been discussed vividly in detail by the developers of the game via a roadmap Question and Answer. The Q/A roadmap was posted on the game’s official forum discussions and other social media platforms to reach as many players as possible. Players were thrilled to read the upcoming changes and new content coming to the game as Rise of Kingdoms is nearing the end of 2022.
In this article, we will be majorly discussing in-depth what the developers have to say about the questions that were popularly asked by the community. For new players or existing players who are curious about how these Q/A (Question/Answer) works, the developers choose to answer some of the questions in a simple format on their online forums and social media platforms. Rise of Kingdom is one of the most popular RPGs for mobile and can be installed as a free-to-play title on both Google Play Store and iOS App Store.
New Storyline, Maps, Matchmaking Mechanics
For the first question asked by the community:
Question – When will the new Season Storyline be released?
Answer – The new season storyline is scheduled to be released in early November this year itself.
The answer to this question was quite straightforward with the developers acknowledging that the game was in desperate need of a new story to move forward to other civilizations. Not just that, the developers further commented that players will be experiencing 2 new seasonal storylines instead of only 1. While the first one is scheduled for November winter 2022, an additional update will be given for the 2nd one. Currently, the game developers are working on finishing up the script and gameplay features of the seasonal storyline as we speak.
The developers also clearly state that they have taken feedback from players’ disappointment with the previous season’s storyline and are adept at making changes to the gameplay features and script/presentation of the new seasonal storyline. The new storyline to be released in November will see improvements and changes in many aspects of the game, including the map layout, camp composition, social dynamics, and specific rules of the gameplay.
The matchmaking mechanics of Rise of Kingdoms are also going to be undergoing a massive paradigm shift. In the new map of the storyline, all players will be divided into 2 camps. Each camp will have 3 starting positions, from which players will take on others in 3v3 battles. The team mode like Light and Darkness will also be brought back with the update. To bring new possibilities to diplomatic and strategic gameplay as well as striking visuals, we have designed a stunning asymmetrical map. In the new map, kingdoms of the same camp will have to develop on their own and fight their way across the map before they can finally join their allies. The new storyline is set against the backdrop of the fight for the throne in the aftermath of the Ark of Osiris, with the terrain set pre-dominantly in the Egyptian deserts. After the death of Osiris, who will be the new king? Will Seth keep his throne after the brutal murder of his brother or will Horus, son of Osiris, avenge his father in a Hamletian tale?
You, Governors, will decide.
Question – What about existing Talents? Are they going to be changed?
Answer – In the new update, Governor, s gameplay focus will expand from city management and troop command—introducing the all-new Talents system. Players will now have many pathways for developing talents and skills. In each season, Governors will need to set their strategic focus, whether it be field battles, siege wars, or city development so make sure to allocate talents and skills accordingly. The developers believe that the new Talent system will bring about more strategic depth to the game.
Question – Will improvements be made to the KvK matchmaking mechanics?
Answer – Yes
One of the most challenging aspects for the developers has been the matchmaking for KvK storylines, especially the Season of Conquest. This issue is not widely visible for new-mid game players but is largely observed by advanced players who are well into the late game. The primary issue has been to solve matchmaking of different Kingdoms that have severe differences in their power levels. This is the reason that the developers are confident that Team Mode will provide a just solution for all. Team Mode will also be enabled in KvK storylines as well as Season of Conquest.
Question – When will we see ranged combat in the game?
Answer – Along with the new storyline, the full-ranged combat experience will also be available to players after November of this year.
Many players might be aware that we are currently developing a feature for ranged combat. But that’s only part of the show. What we have been developing is a whole new set of gameplay features named tentatively the “Formation System”. The new system will take playability and strategic nuance to a different level in combat, battlefields, unit types, and more. Our bold changes will revolutionize the gameplay experience by adding a new dimension of depth to the battlefield. Players will be able to enjoy a much more realistic experience, making the most strategic use of all their unit types in combat. Here are some more details regarding the new Formation system:
The Formations system will allow users to make the most use of each type of troop unit, the siege weapons included. With the introduction of formations, the spatial positioning of different troop units will become a fundamental part of gameplay. For example, ranged troops can snipe enemies from afar. Melee units, on the other hand, can deal intensive damage and establish a defensive line against an enemy advancement at close range. Alongside this, existing game features, such as resource gathering and mobility, will also be enriched by the introduction of formations.
With the new formations, governors will be able to diversify the way they want to set up their teams and units individually. Having a good mix of ranged and close combat units can prove to be deadly. However, always remember that strategy and tact will prevail!
Question – When are the combat and visuals going to be updated?
Answer – Combat and Visuals have been a key area of development for the future of Rise of Kingdoms. Here are some of our personal takes on each aspect.
Combat – To achieve the synergy effect of a combination of ranged and close combat, allowing for optimized use of different troop units, we are also introducing the collision system, allowing players to form front and rear lines, and giving them more options in their troop positioning strategies, whether they’re up close with the enemy or attacking from a distance. We will add a Troop behavioral option that will allow players to choose whether to engage in battle upon encountering enemies. Additionally, features from the collision system will also be available in the Season of Conquest storyline where players will enjoy a distinctive combat experience.
Visuals – We’ve also put tons of effort into the visual design of the new system and plan to add formations and weapons historically used by different civilizations in real battles into the game. For example, the triple-bow ballista known for its killer accuracy in ranged attacks is inspired by the real weapon used in ancient China. We also iterated its historical design to better fit the gameplay and the art style.
Question – New plans for Commanders?
Answer – Both prime commanders and regular commanders will be released periodically and are in active development.
The developers further stated that they will be adding Season of Conquest commanders such as Zhuge Liang in the second half of this year. Some silhouettes of the new commanders were also teased.
Question – What are the new plans for new civilizations?
Answer – New civilizations are another very important part of our development plans for this year. Following the introduction of the Egyptian civilization, we have been working tirelessly on another civilization. Creating a new civilization is a highly complex process. Having completed our preliminary research, we have decided on our new civilization and are now conducting in-depth research.
