Gameplay Fundamentals
Let’s look at the basic gameplay mechanics of The Era of Overman: Idle RPG. The gameplay is very similar to other idle RPGs out in the market but adds its own creative twists.
At its core, the gameplay consists of perpetually fighting waves of enemies with your team of overmen. At first, you start out with one overman, Kang Lim, but you eventually can buy more slots to add more overmen to your team. Your overmen fight enemies one at a time. They move on to the next enemy once the current enemy’s shield and health run out. Your overmen attack enemies in various ways.
- Regular Attacks – your overmen launch basic attacks on the enemy. Depending on the overman, their attack could either be through physical contact or through ranged weapons like guns. Every hit to an enemy earns you coins, and EXP, and fills up the skill bar and fever bar.
- Skill – when the skill bar is full after landing enough regular attacks, your overman launches their skill which is a special, powerful attack. Each overman has a different skill.
- Fever – when the fever bar is full, fever is enabled which doubles the speed at which your overmen attack the enemy, regardless if they’re using regular attacks or skills. Fever is a very powerful tool that can decimate multiple enemies quickly or eliminate a boss.
Your overmen can take damage from enemies from time to time. To refill their health, you can give them healing potions that bring them back to 100% health. You can get more potions by either watching ads or buying them with diamonds.
Actions such as using skills, healing potions, and enabling fever can be automated. This can be done by clicking on the “Auto” button and enabling their respective auto feature. Note that there are times when it is strategic to not enable auto for certain actions.
To temporarily make your overmen powerful, you can also enable buffs. This can be done by clicking on the “Buff” button and enabling buffs. There are four buffs in the game:
- Attack Buff – the attack power of all team members is doubled
- Drop Gold Buff – gold dropped by normal monsters is doubled
- Fever Charge Buff – fever recharge time is doubled
- Game Speed Buff – the game speed is multiplied by 1.5
Currencies
Throughout the game, you earn several currencies and resources. These can be used to upgrade your overmen and unlock advantages.
- Gold – the main currency of the game which is commonly used to level up your overmen.
- Equipment Reinforcing Stone – the currency used to upgrade the equipment worn by your overmen.
- Jewels – the premium currency of the game which is used to buy items and advantages in the game. Examples of things you can buy with jewels are healing potions, additional team slots, gold, and the like.
- Tickets – these can be used to open loot boxes. There are different tickets for each loot box.
An important thing to note about the currency system is that it uses letters to shorten large numbers. The higher the letter is, the greater the amount of currency. For example, 8.00b of Gold is higher than 8.00a of Gold. Similarly, 8.00c of Gold is higher than 8.00b of Gold.
Clearing Stages
The main progression system of The Era of Overman: Idle RPG is the stage system.
As mentioned, your overmen constantly fight waves of enemies, and that makes up the idle aspect of the game. However, when you eliminate a certain amount of enemies, you unlock the ability to spawn the boss. The boss is a very tough enemy in that not only do they have high health and shield values but you also have a very limited amount of time to beat them. Because of this, it is wise to disable automatically using skills and fever when approaching a boss fight so that you can use all of those attacks on the boss.
Defeating the boss completes one wave. To unlock the next stage, you must complete the required amount of waves, which is usually five waves. Completing a certain stage is a requirement to unlock certain features in the game such as guilds. Additionally, you can also replay stages if you wish.
Incident Journal
The story of the game progresses through the incident journal. This can be thought of as story quests.
Completing each entry in the incident journal rewards you with gold or jewels. For some entries, you unlock new overmen such as Saint Pearl, Matt Dion, and the like. Fortunately, you can replay entries and still earn rewards from them, which are indicated in “Retry Rewards”.
