The Best Top War: Battle Game Tips, Tricks, and Strategies for Beginners
Top War is a straightforward strategy game that combines warfare, conquest, base building, and merge gameplay elements into a unique creation that stands out among the rest in the genre. However, it’s this very uniqueness that makes it quite challenging to get into in the first place, as there’s a lot of things to see, do, and learn before you’re able to march onto the fields and start dominating your enemies.
With that being said, here are a few basic tips and tricks for beginners that you can use to get a leg up in Top War, and hopefully speed up your progress in the beginning.
Merge. Absolutely. Everything
In the beginning, you’re barely equipped with a few barracks and a handful of troops, which considerably limits your combat potential. And this is without mentioning that your account is also level 1, further restricting the things you can do in this game. For this reason, one of the most important things you can do if you’re just starting out is to focus on merging buildings and troops, both to grow your strength, as well as to get direct access to better units later on, without having to merge them from base-level troops.
Remember that most things, excluding some buildings, can be merged in Top War. Elements of higher-level give you many benefits. For instance, higher-level troops will not only hit harder but may also attack several times per turn, hitting more enemies at one moment. Conversely, buildings of higher levels can do the same thing as their lower-level counterparts, but faster and better. For example, a level 3 Gold Mine takes 20 seconds to recharge and grants 360 gold per cycle, while a level 5 Gold Mine takes 30 seconds to recharge, but gives around 2,000 gold, which is almost 7 times the payout for just 30% more recharge time.
Later on, you might choose to stick with several unupgraded units for your own reasons, especially when it comes to combat units. However, in the beginning, it’s almost always in your best interest to merge everything you can.
Purchase War Room Upgrades Whenever Possible
Just like with merging your units and buildings, another thing you should always be doing, in the beginning, is purchasing the upgrades available to you in the War Room. These upgrades are similar to science and technology upgrades in other conquest games, in that they grant permanent buffs to your base such as increasing the level cap on units and buildings, increasing your hero’s power and stats, and more. Furthermore, these upgrades also grant valuable XP for your account, which in turn will increase your player level, opening up more features and areas for you to explore.
However, purchasing these upgrades can be quite costly, especially later on. And we’re not just talking about gold, but also about other materials required for upgrading certain aspects. These materials can be quite difficult to gather, so you should invest only in the most important upgrades first, such as increasing the unit level cap so you can create stronger troops, as well as the barracks upgrades, which increase the level cap of these vital structures, among others.
Hunt Enemies in the World Map
As we mentioned above, one of the most complicated parts about researching new upgrades in the War Room is actually collecting the materials themselves, particularly since different upgrades often cost different materials per upgrade. For this reason, you should always hunt as many enemies on the world map as you can, as these give important upgrade materials every time you defeat them.
Keep in mind, however, that we’re talking exclusively about the NPC enemies that roam the world map, not the other players that have their bases near yours. While the PvP is another fun aspect of Top War, you first need to upgrade your base and create a decent army before moving on to fighting against other players. And for this, you’ll need all the resources you can find.
Follow the Main Quests
Top War doesn’t give you much in the way of a story or a campaign to follow as you play, which can make it a bit difficult to know what you should be doing at any given moment. However, you can always check the Main Quests on the lower left of the screen to get an idea of what to do, since these often give you countless tasks of increasing complexity. And the best part is that, by completing these activities, you’ll earn a vast number of rewards including tons of gold and other materials that will come in handy for upgrading your base.
Later on, you’ll also unlock additional quests via this menu, which you can check by clicking on the exclamation mark just left of the text.
Upgrade Your Hero Characters
While your army will be doing the most damage, your Heroes are the ones who will be leading them into battle, as well as lending support via their special skills. For this reason, it’s always worth it to keep your heroes upgraded as much as possible, which you can do via several methods. The first is simply by leveling up, which you can do by using experience books. The second and most difficult is by promoting them using hero shards, which you can only obtain through events, via hero recruitment, or gift packs. The third method for upgrading is via the research recruit feature, in which you can perform rolls to receive randomized shards that can improve aspects of your heroes.
Regardless of the method, you choose to upgrade, the important part is that you remember to actually do it, as your heroes can often give you the push needed to win battles in Top War, especially when it comes to the stronger end-game units.
