TRIBE NINE is an action-packed RPG set in a dystopian cyberpunk world where gangs, known as “Tribes,” compete in intense, high-stakes matches of Extreme Baseball (XB)—a futuristic blend of baseball and combat. Players take on the role of a new recruit in Neo Tokyo, where lawlessness reigns, and Tribes battle for dominance. Each character possesses unique abilities, weapons, and special moves that influence both combat and strategic team play. In this beginner’s guide, we will be explaining the core game mechanics in bite-sized layman friendly paragraphs that will definitely help you get started in your journey. Let’s begin!

Understanding the Gameplay Mechanics of Tribe Nine

At it’s core, TRIBE NINE follows an action targeting system that enhances the overall gameplay fluidity. The game encourages players to try out different heroes and mix-match their abilities for combos. Each character in the game has unique active and passive abilities. Many of them use distinctive weapons, and this distinction can be seen in their basic attacks. Players can form a party of 3 different characters to proceed in battles. The game has 2 different modes – Exploration and Battle. In the former mode, you take control of the main character Yu and roam around the massive world to take on quests, and compete in events.

The battle modes are quite different as you can visually see your characters and their 3D models in all their glory along with beautiful ability animations to go along with it. The controls work fluently but they are not customizable if you’re playing on a mobile device. On the right-hand side, you should see the large control wheel that can used to control your character’s movement. Just beside it is the Dodge/Sprint feature that allows you to gap close in the camera direction. This function can be used without any repercussions, giving you unlimited dodges unlike modern ARPGs.

Your character’s abilities are present on the left-hand side of the control wheel. Simply press them to use on enemies. Each ability can have a specific cooldown timer that dictates when it can be used again. During battles, both your allies and the enemies will gain Tension increase. Tension increases in phases, starting with 1 but going all the way to Xtreme. When Tension increases, you can choose to either use Tension Cards or ultimate abilities of your characters. Doing any of them will consume Tension. Players can combo character ultimate abilities to deal extra combo damage.

The Synchro System Explained

In TRIBE NINE, the gacha system is called “Synchro”. By utilizing this system, players can gain access to both new characters and Tension Cards. While the former are more lucrative at lower rates, the latter are also quite useful in battles, especially when synergized with the right type of characters. Players can summon on different summoning banners, some of which have a higher rate-up chance for characters while others have for Tension Cards. The probability of summoning a character or Tension Card from the banners are as follows:

  • 3-Star character – 0.6%
  • 2-Star character – 3.4%
  • 2-Star Tension card – 1.7%
  • 1-Star Tension card – 94.3%

Enhance your Characters with Tension Cards and Potential Gems

In TRIBE NINE, Tension Cards play an important role in determining your character’s attributes and fighting effectiveness. Equipping up to five Tension Cards allows you to modify and improve certain skills, giving you a strategic advantage in battle. These cards work similarly to weapons, providing boosts that can substantially change your gameplay experience. As you progress in the game, your Rank increases, granting you Potential Gems that contain character-specific training points. These gems can be freely allocated to various skills, allowing you to customize each character’s powers to suit your desired playstyle. This concept allows for extensive modification, such as transforming a healer into a powerful attacker.
