VALHALLA SURVIVAL is a gripping open-world survival action RPG that plunges players into the brutal yet mystical world of Norse mythology. Set in the realm of Midgard, players must navigate a land ravaged by mythical creatures, harsh climates, and the looming threat of Ragnarök. The game seamlessly blends survival mechanics with deep role-playing elements, offering a unique experience for fans of both genres. Learn magical skills and implement them in real-time combat scenarios that test your skills and tact! In this beginners guide, we will be shedding light on some of the core gameplay modes and mechanics that all players should be aware about. Let’s begin!

Understanding the Combat Mechanics of VALHALLA SURVIVAL

The core gameplay of VALHALLA SURVIVAL is completely roguelike, wherein players can only control the movement of their character. The gameplay is quite interesting and different from other survival RPGs as players can even equip weapons and increase the level of their characters outside of the game. Once you have selected which character and weapon you want to bring out, simply click on play and you will be taken to the main story stages. These stages vary in difficulty and the higher you progress, the more difficult it becomes to survive. In the beginning, you will be facing weaker enemies that do not deal much damage to your character but do not let this get to your head. Your movement and ability to dodge incoming attacks is tested multifold times in the form of bosses and mini-bosses.

Players can control the movement of their character by clicking anywhere on the screen. There is no fixed movement wheel in the game. While the game looks and feels beautiful to watch and play, it does sometimes take time to render skill animations. Your character levels up in gameplay by collecting EXP points. These are blue crystals dropped by killing enemies. The green crystals dropped on the other hand represent HP and can be collected to restore lost health.

VALHALLA SURVIVAL Beginner's Guide and Tips

The game revolves around multiple waves of enemies that keep following you and can damage your health. Constantly move around and dodge large pools of enemies as they can drain your health faster than you can kill them. Ensure to pick up loot chests and other gear materials as they drop occasionally after you slay a mini-boss or final boss of the stage.

At the end, it’s fully customizable and players can test multiple builds in case they are having difficulty with the current one. You will be required to use a special currency called Action Points in order to play the game. The maximum cap is 30 but can be increased as your account levels up. Each main stage exploration costs 4 AP. Players can get more AP by simply watching advertisements or using their premium currency (up to 3 times per day).

Skills

Coming to skills, they can be equipped to your character by enhancing their level inside a gameplay stage. You can acquire more skills or choose to upgrade existing ones. Apart from skills, players can also boost character stats. Each time you level up the character, a pop-up appears denoting 3 options. These 3 options are randomized and can be either new skill, existing skill upgrade, or character stat upgrade. For beginners, the game will automatically recommend the best option. At the higher levels, this recommendation stops and players need to make smart choices according to their playstyle and stage requirements.

Once chosen, the skills will automatically activate and be used according to their cooldown timer. Players can also enhance these skills by levelling up their character and improving them in order. It’s recommended to create a healthy mix of both skill upgrades and unlocking new skills. Character stat boosts can be also useful to take in the later levels of the stage.

Characters and Classes

VALHALLA SURVIVAL is an intricately designed rogue-like game that features multiple classes. There are also multiple characters, each part of a certain class. Classes are broader determination of specific types of characters. For example, the starter character Lif is a Sorceress. New players can refer to a thorough class guide to learn more about the tropes of specific classes. At the time of global launch, there are a total of 6 characters available from 3 classes:

  • Lif (Sorceress)
  • Asheran (Warrior)
  • Roskva (Rogue)
  • Njord (Warrior)
  • Freyja (Sorceress)
  • Skadi (Rogue)

Players can directly purchase them after they clear the campaign mode 1-4 in the form of in-game microtransactions. Each character has unique traits that synergize with the abilities they can attain in combat. Additionally, players can also directly increase the levels of their characters owned, and switch between them regardless of any class. This system eradicates the need of playing only a certain class as players can effortlessly switch between characters of all classes before they begin a match. Leveling up your characters not only increases their base stats such as Attack, Defense, and movement speed but also empowers the quality of their abilities.

Weapons

Weapons are an intricate part of your journey of survival in Valhalla. The game likes to create unique builds for players to try and test in the form of weapons they can equip to their owned characters. Not all characters can wield all weapons, as many are restricted by class or playstyle. For example, you cannot expect the melee warrior Asheran to fight with Bows. However, all classes and characters have multiple weapon options that they can combine with other equipment such as armor and chestplate.

Weapons also imbue some of their own stats into the character for better damage, survival, and mobility. Weapons come in different rarities and they are dropped in the form of loot that you collect after defeating mini-bosses and main bosses. At the higher stages of difficulty, the weapon drops will become more amazing with higher quality drops.
