AFK Journey has just released their biggest ever update, titled as “Waves of Intrigue”. This is not your regular run-of-the-mill update but a full seasonal change wherein players can experience new events, characters, locations, maps, artifacts, and growth mechanics. The update and its contents can already be seen live in-game as it was implemented on 19th September, 2024. Let’s check out all the new contents added to the game for improved player gaming experience.

Season Faction Talent

Players can use the newly added Season Faction Talent system to raise his Resonance Level and collect Talent Orbs, which can then be used to activate Faction Talents. These talents provide stat increases to heroes from the same faction, and their impact in battle can be boosted further with Core Talents. When players deploy three heroes from the same faction, Talent Resonance provides exceptional buffs to the heroes positioned on the Talent Buff Tiles, improving the entire battle experience.

New Seasonal Artifacts

The Waves of Intrigue update has also added 10 new seasonal artifacts that can be collected and upgraded like your usual artifacts. Players will be able to acquire them via completing story quests, challenges, reputation missions, and more.

New Magic Charms

The Season Magic Charm system makes a comeback in the new season. This time, the Magic Charms have more diverse properties and no longer include random affixes.

Reset your Heroes!

The new season also includes a number of new items:

  • A-Level Swap (Waves)
  • S-Level Swap (Waves)
  • A-Level Swap (Starter)
  • S-Level Swap (Starter)

Players can use these artifacts to change the hero tier and Exclusive Equipment level of two non-Celestial and non-Hypogean heroes with the same rarity. These things are available for free through Season Milestone Quests, allowing Magister Merlin to develop heroes with ease and without worry.

Heroic Gauntlet – New Game Mode

The Heroic Gauntlet is a new round-based challenge mode that players can challenge on a bi-weekly basis. Each time you clear a stage in this game mode, you will not only get individual rewards but also accumulate points for extra bonuses. Furthermore, if the player successfully completes the high-difficulty levels in the current round, the low-difficulty stages in the following round will be unlocked immediately, providing for faster access to the more difficult stages.

New Exploration Tactics

A ton of new exploration strategies and mechanics have been added with Waves of Intrigue update. Check them out:

Sailing – Boats are required for player expeditions of the Scandia Islands. While traveling over the sea, Magister Merlin may encounter floating treasure chests, dangerous pirates, or weird vortices. Be cautious—if you get trapped in a vortex, you don’t know where you’ll end up!

Stealth – Stealth is a skill that players must perfect in the chaotic Rustport. To infiltrate a specified location undetected, Magister Merlin must carefully avoid patrols, as being discovered would result in failure. However, certain objects can be utilized to distract attackers, giving you a chance to complete the Stealth Challenge.

Alchemy – To produce an object through alchemy, players must carefully follow the formula prompts, adding the relevant components in the proper proportions and order.

Nara – New Hero

Nara is an S rarity hero from the Graveborn faction that is classified as a Rogue type. Check out her active and passive abilities:

  • Crimson Vengeance (Ultimate skill) – Nara obtains 750 Energy when the battle begins. After briefly powering up, she hits the target for 320% + 35% damage. If the target’s HP ratio is less than 40%, Nara will deal 560% + 60% true damage instead. In Auto Battle, this skill will not be used against non-boss opponent heroes with an HP ratio greater than 40%.
  • Phantom Chains (1st active skill) – When there are no foes in Nara’s normal attack range, she summons a faraway enemy hero. The target loses 3.5% + 0.5% HP per tile pulled, up to 250% of Nara’s ATK. This skill will not defeat the enemy and instead targets the closest symmetrical enemy hero.
  • Killer Kick (2nd active skill) – Nara kicks a nearby enemy, causing 130% + 15% damage and knocking them into the air and down for 2 seconds. She then delivers three fast hits, each delivering 80% + 8% damage.
  • Hero Focus (Passive skill) – Nara increases her ATK by 10% during battle. After an Assist or Kill, her ATK increases by an extra 15%.
  • Eerie Execution (EX Skill) – After defeating an enemy hero with Crimson Vengeance, Nara unleashes a 2-tile shockwave that deals 8% of the defeated target’s max HP to all opponents in the area. This shockwave additionally heals all teammates in the vicinity for 8% of the defeated target’s maximum HP. The damage caused and healed by this talent cannot exceed 600% of Nara’s ATK.

Sinbad – New Hero

Sinbad is an A rarity hero from the Lightbearer faction that is classified as a Rogue type. Check out his active and passive abilities:

  • Whizzing Edge (Ultimate skill) – This ability has both an active and passive part:

Passive: Sinbad’s talents deal normal attack damage, and his casting speed is influenced by his ATK SPD and Haste.

Active: Sinbad attacks the adversary as many times as possible for 3 seconds, causing 100% + 15% damage per hit. Following these successive blows, he unleashes a last strike that deals 240% damage

  • Tracker’s Instincts (1st active skill) – Six seconds into a combat, Sinbad dives behind his teammates and begins measuring the enemy’s power. He designates the adversary who causes the most harm as the “hitter” and the enemy who takes the most damage as the “guard.” These marks remain for 30 years. Sinbad charges at the “hitter,” dealing 120% + 10% damage four times while lowering their ATK by 45%. He then takes on the “guard,” dealing the same damage four times while increasing their damage taken by 25%. Both debuffs expire when the corresponding marks do. If a marked adversary is defeated or the marks expire, Sinbad begins a new assessment and is unaffected during this period. When used against Bosses, the debuffs have a 20% reduced effect.
  • Duo Cut (2nd active skill) – Sinbad strikes his double-headed blade twice, causing 210% + 20% damage every hit to his victim.
  • Hero Focus (Passive skill) – Increases ATK SPD by 21 during battle.
  • Adaptive Prowess (EX Skill) – Sinbad analyzes the fighting methods of the “hitter” and the “guard” to improve the debuffs he uses. If the “hitter” deals more normal attack damage, Sinbad’s debuff reduces their ATK SPD by 60; if they deal more skill damage, the debuff decreases their Energy Recovery efficiency by 60%. For the “guard,” if they rely more on healing from friends or themselves, Sinbad’s debuff will reduce their Vitality by 60; if they rely more on damage mitigation, the debuff will reduce their Physical DEF and Magic DEF by 30%.

Dunlingr – New Hero

Dunlingr is an S rarity hero from the Celestial faction that is classified as a Tank type. Check out his active and passive abilities:

  • Echo of Silence (Ultimate skill) – Before a combat begins, Dunlinger designates the Bell of Order as Spellbind or Curelock, establishing the order of battle.

Spellbind: Cannot cast Ultimate

Curelock: Cannot recover HP for others

Active Part: Dunlingr summons the Bell of Order, issuing an order to all non-boss units on both sides to obey unconditionally for 6 +0.25s.

Passive Part: When a combat begins, Dunlingr summons the Bell of Order, which remains on the battlefield for 12 + 0.5 seconds. Every time it is called, the Bell of Order deals 200% + 20% damage to all opponents. After defeating Dunlinger, the order’s impact duration is decreased to 30% of the remaining time.

  • Grand Resonance (1st active skill) – Dunlinger sends out a shockwave that covers the frontal area (3 tiles wide by 3 tiles long), causing 4 strikes of 40% + 5% damage to opponents within. If the Bell of Order is set on Spellbind, Dunlinger reduces the adversaries’ ATK SPD by an additional 60 for 4 seconds. If the Bell of Order is set to Curelock, Dunlinger delivers additional damage equal to 3% of the foes’ reduced HP, up to 30% of his own ATK.
  • Harmonic Soundwall (2nd active skill) – If the Bell of Order is set on Spellbind, Dunlinger obtains a shield that absorbs 130% + 20% of an enemy’s Ultimate damage and lasts until the combat finishes. If the Bell of Order is set on Curelock, Dunlinger obtains a shield that absorbs 130% + 20% damage every time he loses 20% of his max HP, which lasts until the combat is over.
  • Hero Focus (Passive skill) – Dunlingr reduces damage taken by 10% during the battle. While the order is in effect, he further reduces damage taken by an extra 5%.
  • Clemency Chime (EX Skill) – Dunlinger shields the farthest non-summoned ally, guaranteeing they are unaffected by his order until the ally is defeated.
