Game of Vampires: Twilight Sun - Overview of the Marriage and Family System
In Game of Vampires, one of the defining features that sets it apart, much like its predecessor Game of Sultans, is the intricate romance and family system. This aspect of this RPG allows players to form relationships, marry, and even raise offspring, significantly impacting their dominance and power within the game. This guide will introduce you to the basics of building and managing these personal connections, which are as pivotal to your success as your strategic and combat decisions. Here, you’ll learn how engaging in relationships can strategically advance your position in the world of Macabria.
Romance and Lovers
Romance plays a central role in Game of Vampires, echoing the importance of relationship-building found in its predecessor, Game of Sultans. As Lord Protectors of Macabria, players can interact with various NPCs to forge relationships that may eventually lead to marriage and family.
As we mentioned in our beginner’s guide, engaging with potential lovers starts with encounters during Masquerades, social events around town where you can meet new characters. While many encounters yield only small rewards or bits of dialogue, persistence may reward you with a romantic connection. The chance of finding a potential Lover is affected by your Luck stat, as shown on the top right of the Masquerade screen—the higher your Luck, the higher the odds of encountering a Lover during your Masquerades. As your relationships deepen, so does your bond, measured by the level of Intimacy with any Lover in the Lovers screen. Higher Intimacy levels result in offspring with better stats, enhancing your dominance in the game.
An interesting aspect of the romance system is that the gender of your lovers is initially aligned with your avatar’s gender—female avatars will encounter male lovers and vice versa. However, players have the flexibility to alter the gender of potential lovers before meeting them by accessing the “Lovers” button on the Masquerade screen. This option allows you to customize your romantic encounters but choose wisely, as a lover’s gender cannot be easily changed once they have been introduced. Luckily, gender has no effect on whether or not you can have children with any given Lover, and it’s purely cosmetic.
Lover Stats and Dating
Once you find a potential Lover during your Masquerades, they will be available on the Lovers submenu in the Family section of the game, which you can find directly to the right of your Castle. Selecting a Lover here gives you a closer view of your relationship with them, which is basically summed up into two main stats: Attraction and Intimacy:
- Attraction: Determines how much your Lover is attracted to you and affects the amount of Affinity received from dating or from the Lover’s Lodge.
- Intimacy: Determines how close you are to your Lover. Higher Intimacy values affect the stats of any offspring you have with the said Lover, with higher values leading to stronger children.
While it may seem like Intimacy is the most important of the stats, it’s worth mentioning that both values are important, as you need to increase them both to deepen your bond with your Lover. Once you reach certain values, you can increase your level of love with the said Lover. To know how much Intimacy and Attraction you need to level up a Lover, you can always click on their name in their information screen. Romance and Children
Once you reach an acceptable level of Intimacy with your Lover, you can choose to romance them, which will result in an offspring. Keep in mind that you can do this whenever you want, though you should always try to increase your Intimacy first a bit, just so your children can have better stats when they mature and grow into adulthood. Remember that stronger children will give you a better boost to your Dominance, which is essentially the entire point of this romance system, beyond the roleplaying aspect.
Romancing your Lover costs Diamonds, though the first time is free. Upon romancing your Lover, your child will be born, upon which you’ll be able to give them a name and check their estimated stats upon reaching adulthood. Before they can mature, however, you’ll need to constantly train and raise them. Raising children is easy but time-consuming, as you’ll need to train them a few times before they grow.
These training sessions have a long cooldown, so it’ll probably take a day or two before your Children grow up. Playing Game of Vampires on PC with BlueStacks can significantly enhance your experience as you can actively monitor your children on one instance, while playing any other games on another instance, without having to swap back and forth between games. After training them enough, your children will mature and add their strength to your cause, after which you can then marry them off with other players’ children, or just leave them in your roster. Marrying your children off is a great way to increase your dominance and is the main goal of the family system, once again beyond the roleplaying and dating aspect of it.
Of course, this was just a very brief overview of the dating system in Game of Vampires: Twilight Sun. The actual system is more complex than described here, though we have given you all the information you need to get started on your path to becoming a powerful head of your vampiric family. As you continue playing, you’ll learn the ins and outs of this system and will be well on your way to creating an unstoppable undead force in Macabria.
