You’ll need it to craft Stardust Source, which is used in crafting ammunition, Activators, and upgrading your weapons through calibration. But before you can use it, you need to refine it in an Electric Furnace, and to do that, you need the Oil Processing Memetic Specialization unlocked.

If you’re just starting out, focus on unlocking that specialization as soon as possible. It turns your mining efforts into actual progress rather than just stockpiling raw materials.

Where to Find Startrace Ore Nodes

You’ll find Startrace Ore—the only source of Stardust Ore—in specific high-pollution areas of the Once Human map.
